FMIC Newage question

Hi there, i have been looking on ebay and found an xs power FMIC kit for my MY04 WRX V-ltd. My question is has anyone had any experience of them? are they any good or a complete waste of time, are the actual cores any good and are they going to block half of the flow to the rad due to the large gap between the two and will i have to junk the HKS filter i have??

Cheers
Chris

it looks just like the autobahn type (600x300x76)just with there own logo on i have one works fine as long as its fitted well!!

That really is tempting, although im not sure i would benefit yet, dont you need to be pushing 400bhp up to make use of these. (apart from looking wicked)

I would go for the GDB Hybrid kit. It's an perfect fit and works very well

The fmic size is 600x200x100

would it be so wrong to get a fmic, just cos they look sooo good :D

Best FMIC on the market is Air Power Systems - APS725 rated for 700HP applications. The TurboXS FMIC is good though, TurboXS is a very popular brand in the US.

ive bought one of the hybrid ones and shoudl be getting it soon, but its being coupled to a 2.5 with a fair few mods.

Im looking forward to it more now ive seen those pics as the ones they have on ebay make it look rediculous!

What makes this the best, good marketing?

Neilo 07 January 2006 07:42 PM

i think the fact that its expensive

jbagh 07 January 2006 10:01 PM

And the fact that its 4½" thick! THÉ biggest fmic on the marked. I held one of these during a recent visit to the US (Went to see Crawford Performance), and the look and feel of the IC is great and nothing like the others.. But since it's so huge it needs a big blower.. (Still saving up to buy one for my own 04 STI)

i have the hyperflow monster kit fitted, its a great bit of kit and the quality is second to none

remember with the newage bit coolers you replace the front crossmember, thats why i went for a brand, as i wouldent trust a cheap kit to hold the front of the car together

Neilo 08 January 2006 11:39 AM

you dont replace the front crossmemeber with this kit though mate....so it isnt a problem, you can by a lighter bar which is thinner in terms of height from gruppe-S but im going to wait to see how this hangs at the front of the car, but looking at those pic it sits fine....

David MY99 08 January 2006 01:19 PM

We measured the intake temp (Autronic mounted) with this kitt and it's perfect.
15degrees outside gave an intake temp of max 25 degrees, even after a spirited drive. With cruising it went to 17-18 degrees.

What about Laterals kit?

Neilo 08 January 2006 09:20 PM

im guessing its not going to be as cheap as 390 + shipping...

chrisp200+ 09 January 2006 10:19 PM

thanks for the replies, you have to do a few bits of cutting to get the FMIC on the car. Don't want to have to cut it up too much. So if there are any kits that you dont have to do anything to the bodywork then that would be better. I saw the hybrid kit but didn't like the way that half of it looked like it was hanging out of the bottom of the car

Anyone got any URL's for the other kits??

Cheers
Chris

I thought that too although looking at these pics it will sit fine on mine....also you can get a cross member bar from gruppe-S that is half the height (and weight) that would raise the whole thing up by at least 1.5" which should make all the difference..

just a thought :) ill post pics when mines comes back with it fitted anyway.

chrisp200+ 10 January 2006 08:39 PM

Ta, if you could post the pics. I have got the V-ltd splitter that the car comes with which might cover some of it. Trouble is that scrapes coming out of car parks so surely the intercooler is going to get it as well.
Oh well i'll wait for the pics and guess from there
