Upgrades, intercooler, turbo

Have uk 2000 turbo w reg, fitted Tek2 from Clive Atthowe Tuning, pushing 248bhp. Now we want more, but unsure of the best way to go. would like to replace the intercooler and maybe the turbo. were wanting to go for the 300+bhp mark. Any ideas that wont break the bank. Again.http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/i/expressions/...ll-shocked.gif

-------------------------
2000 turbo AWD. Ninja back box, vortex de-cat centre pipe, replacement green filter
V8 Land rover disco, LPG converted, GEMS chipped, Janspeed free flowing exhaust system.
Susuki SV 1000s, arrow exhaust, power commander.
Petrol is great:p

Well let me know how you get on. I've heard mixed reports about Atthowe's, although I had a power run and a quick check over done there when I first bought my WRX wagon and he seemed ok.

As far as more power goes (and I'm no specialist on Scooby engines btw) it's pretty straightforward. The more boost charge and ignition advance you can run, the more power you'll make. So yes, in very basic terms, a bigger turbo, more fuel, a better intercooler and a remap should yield results. Someone stop me if I'm wrong, but the top mounted IC isn't ideal anyway, and improvements from changing it would be minimal until you get into much higher states of tune, when you'd want to go front mounted anyway. Changing the turbo is a better option at this stage I think, but of course it needs supporting mods like the capability for more fuelling and definitely would need a remap. If you#ve not replaced the exhaust system that's your first port of call though before you do anything else.

would go for a decat downpipe as this will give quite big gains, however as you have already had a tek 2 I think you would need another remap to get maximum advatage out of it. A bigger turbo and/or a manual boost controller will help, but your intercooler should be fine for 300bhp, possibly bigger injectors as well (not sure if yours would be 380 or 440cc, if they are 380cc then I would say they definately need changing to a higher capacity injector)

Just in the process of getting a Ninja fast flow cat pipe. Happy with intercooler, just need to know what type of turbo 04 or 05??

Did you know about the GB on Down Pipes with sports cats on with Hayward and Scott at the moment?

TD04 at its limits at about 270-280 as far as I know. TD05 limits much higher but with more lag and they can break std gearboxes. I was advised to consider the VF28 from an STi V if I wanted to upgrade the turbo on my MY99.

Andy F also sells hybrid TD04s which apparently retain the quick spool up, but flow to around 330bhp. How far do you want to go? My understanding is that the top mount is ok to anything up to 350 bhp, but front mount superior and definately a good idea if high speed runs are your thing!

Yeah 440 they are. going to go for hybrid turbo, from Andy F, and re map. Anyone know for ecuTek re-mapping in the Cambs/ essex area?

Well if it's any help I've got a GGR sports cat downpipe and I'm happy with it. I think nowadays with the new MOT regs coming in, you'd have to be a fool to bother with the hassle of decat pipes any more.

Paddi70 04 January 2006 01:51 PM

Where did you pick it from?
