Guy's, only my 3rd post and begging for help already......
I've got the "CHECK ENGINE" showing on the dash & it's staying on, now I've just had a cat 1 fitted on Sat and noticed that the check engine flashes brighter when the indicators are on....coincidence. I am obviously going to ring the guys that fitted the alarm (have used them before and no problems on previous motors).
The car is running fine and showing no problems at all.
As this is a car I've only had for a few days, I will assume the worst anyway.....SO
who can give me the name/number of a Subaru specialist (which I needed anyway), as near to Cleveland as possible. Frantically scouring all my car mags for details at the momment.....

I would really appreciate any help with this matter.
cheers

Nick

This is quite common after an alarm install.

The fitters remove the dash, pull out all the looms, make their connections and then start putting it back.

They then notice two green plugs and two black plugs that seem to have come apart. They plug them back together and finish gaffer taping everything back together.

Hoping you won't notice the flashing "check engine", they hand the keys back and swipe your card.

What they have normally done is put the ECU into diagnostic mode. Unplugging the green and black connectors is all that is normally required... if you can find them under all the gaffer tape.

Hooksin,

The nearest official subaru dealer in Cleveland is petch in Richmond. There's also one in Pickering, N Yorks.

Where abouts are you in Cleveland ??

Listen to Pete Croney: he's spot on. It's common, and normally hints that the guy doesn't work on Imprezas very often http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif.

Simple solution: look under the dash and disconnect the connectors indicated in the picture on Glenn's site.

If you're on the ImportingImprezas list, there's a few posts in the archive about this...

hooksin 25 September 2000 06:19 PM

Rawsy, cheers....I went to S G Petch in Richmond as suggested and spoke to a guy called Richard, he seemed well clued up on the subaru's. He's patched me up with a quick diognostics session and I have booked the car in this Sat for a full service.
He also gave me the name of a mobile guy who will clean up my wheels for me, as they are badly kerbed.
I'm in Hartburn by the way, are you in Cleveland??

cheers,

Pete, thanks mate. Took my motor straight back to Alarm guys (who were very helpful btw), and he unplugged a few things and hey presto this seemed to get rid of the "check engine" as you said. Then proceeded to drive to Richmond to S G Petch (as per Rawsy's instructions), and booked in Sat.

cheers,

One extra thing - you said about the light being brighter when the indicators were on? This seems to be a weird side effect of the way things are wired down there, as the clock light does the same thing.

Only if you have the Bright switch on of course http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Getting very common in Teesside

Hoksin, you could also try Bentleys at Knaresbrough, always seem to be cheaper than Petchys and have always given great service

There's also Gilesgate in Hexham which is a bit further away - but a good drive there on the A68 Darlington to Corbridge road http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Don't know what you had before Nick but I've found Scooby dealers to be a little, er, agricultural in their approach to customer service. I think they have spent too long servicing farm hacks - my MY00 came back from Petch after it's 7500 dirtier than it went in.. there was even a great big blob of grease in the middle of the window !

Glad you got sorted hooksin.

Watch out for the old brown legacy courtesy car at Petchys when you get your service done, it is very very dodgy !!

I live in Cleveland, over in legoland (Ingleby Barwick) !! We have some nice motors over there, several scoobies, couple of evo 6's, and I've spotted a skyline there just this week. Shame about all the traffic though.

Cheers.

Fat Bob 26 September 2000 09:29 PM

Fascinating - I never would have thought of that http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Bob the amazed !

rawsy 27 September 2000 07:50 AM

Well, you learn something new every day Fat Bob.

Yee 27 September 2000 06:46 PM

There is always Vine Place in Chilton (near Rushyford roundabout on the way to Bishop Auckland). Though not an official Subaru dealer, they import them (and other marks). Just a thought, if you needed some advice quick.

I thought I was the only Scooby owner in Hartburn? Just goes to show.

Us ‘locals’ should get together for a drive

Moss 27 September 2000 07:47 PM

Agree with Andy, Bentley's in Knaresborough are excellent. It's also a fantastic drive from Cleveland in a Scooby. Go A1, then via Masham, Middlesmoor, Ramsgill and Pately Bridge... you'll enjoy! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Hogster 27 September 2000 10:10 PM

So many Scoobies in Cleveland!!
We'll have to have a NE meet.... fly over the N Yorks moors a beer at Blakey Ridge, then back again.

Mine is coming up for it's 7,500 service intend to take it to Peter Chapmans in Pickering lovely route over the hills but watch out for PC plod and his radar on the Helmesley rd.

Anyone use the Pickering Dealership??

hooksin 28 September 2000 12:12 AM

Yee - that sounds like a good idea man, should arrange a blast out one weekend with Moss and Hogster & anyone else in Cleveland/surrounding area's. What do you think ??
Rawsy - What about the guys in "legoland", any local meets going on? Have seen the skyline btw, looks great, u raced it yet?

Suppose youv'e all got 280bhp on tap, and me with my standard 210 (+s/s of course..poss 225bhp), would get blasted away, no doubt.
Also where is the nearest 4x4 rolling road, I've heard a place in York??

cheers
Nick

Hooksin - I think he only takes the skyline out for the school run, and every time I've seen it it has been going far too slowly !!

I'd definitely be on for a meet of local NE scoobies - are you organising it then Hogster, after your recent experiences of NM4 ??!!

Cheers,

G

Hogster 28 September 2000 09:34 PM

Cheers Rawsy mate!!!
The next scooby meet is definitely going to be without the kids. Especially after my son Cameron decorated the back of my seat in crisp and ribena chunder during NM4. After a week the smell has just about gone.
If there's enough interest could be good fun to arrange the first? NE meet.
Any Cleveland Scoobies give us a wave DBM Wagon MY99

Hogster

PS Saw the Skyline coming out of Stockton the other night, funny looking bloke driving it......looked just like a woman!!

rawsy 29 September 2000 09:51 AM

Hogster - that probably explains why it is driven so slowly all the time then !!!

When are you up for the first NE meet then ?? I'll be available any time, except the w/e of 21st Oct, when I shall be in Italy watching the top scooby trash McRae's Focus in the hills of San Remo !

Cheers,

G

Rawsy, is your scooby, that really slow dodgy red one that crawls round Yarm like a 2CV. If it is, you must be the ginger lad who was spotted kerb crawling round Boro last Saturday night, looking for a £5 blowie
