grinding noise when rolling with no accelerator.

happens only when in gear, cant hear it under load.

any clues?

could it be low oil in the diff?

any other suggestions?

gearbox bearing? if it was the diff would'nt it be there all the time?

dont know? just wondering if I cannot hear it for the exhaust etc...

also sounds to me like its coming from the rear of the car.

Wheel bearing?

AndyTurbo 02 January 2006 11:51 AM

does it do it when in gear and if u dip the clutch? If so clutch release bearing maybe?

Mine did this and I thought the box was cream crackered. Turned out to be the IC Undertray catching the IC. Could just be something catching.

Does it change sound with vehicle speed?

sorry took me so long to reply.

its a my94 wrx wagon, its showing 86k kms.

I dont think its the diff, as the noise goes away under throttle. when freewheeling in gear with no accelerator then its very noisy, dip the clutch it goes.

My cav turbo had an identical problem and it was the clutch release bearing.
