Quick Import duty question
Hi folks, Just bought something from the US that cost £192, anyone know what the import dutys going to cost me when it gets here ?
Cheers. |
I bought something from the States (non car related) for a similar amount, maybe slightly more & paid £45 for the VAT & post office charge. Roughly...

If you do end up paying duty, IIRC it's 10% (may be 5%?) based on whatever value they write on the package, then 17.5% VAT then whatever the courier charges you for handling the package through customs
I recently imported some brake calipers from Singapore
which cost me £200. The import tax/duty was £25, if that helps as an indicator. Rob |
IIRC duty is 10% of the cost of the item, then you pay 17.5% VAT on the cost of the item, the duty and shipping costs.
get the supplier to mark it "warranty replacement part foc" hey presto no charge:)
Cheers folks, much appreciated.
Beware if you declared low value as the courier company only cover the declared value in case if loss or damage.
Can you not get it declared as a " gift " :norty:
Your VAT will be the normal 17.5%, BUT the duty is dependant on the commodity, if it's electronic equipment there's no duty, what are you bringing in?

I had thought of getting it marked as worthless but then if it goes missing you have lost everything then. Typical UK really, want every last penny they can suck out of you. |
