Problem 2 of 3 - cuts out then carries on

When I hoof the car , e.g. 4th gear , 80 MPH, up to 100MPH , the car pulls great, and all of a sudden just cuts out totally momentarily, then carrie son .

It happens about 70% of the time.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks - Mark

boost solenoid, coil pack what car is it?

Fuel cut? I've got this problem! Car is probably running too much boost and the factory ECU setting is cutting the fuel to stop overboosting?????

Have you checked the oil level ?
A mechanic overfilled my first car, a MY98 WRX, causing contamination of the boost solenoid.
The efect was like hitting a brick wall when accelerating from around 70mph.

does rev counter drop to zero while car is cutting out

Hi

1) It is a 1998 (UK) 200 Turbo with Prodrive Performance Pack (hence believe prodrive ECU).

2) The oil level is fine, (not overfilled).

3) Haven't noticed whether the rev counter drops away to be honest .. I'll try and check that. (I don't think it does, that would look weird and I would have remembered it I think .. anyway , I'll check)

How do I go about testing the various possibilities ?

eg boost soleniod, coil pack etc ?

Am I right in thinking a BOOST guage woul dcome in handy here ? If so , at what level does the ECU normally cut-out ?

Thanks - Mark

Had same problem on my old 98 scoob,Fitted boost gauge and found it to be overboosting causing fuel cut, cured it by fitting a variable boost controller,If i remember fuel cut was arouind 1.12 bar ish,Later fitted hks fuel cut device and ran 1.2 bar with no probs on td04

If you are running a slight overboost a fuel cut defender will sort this out. Better to check with a boost gauge anyway.

Possably your boost solenoid is dirty :( had this problem on my MY00 PPP car, cleaned and ran great again :D though a boost gauge is recommended ;) or a trip to your dealer who can put the car on the monitor.
