Anyone Got a Vaux Monaro

Guys

Thinking of adding to my fleet, a mate of mine has a vaux monaro 5.7v8 and he is going to oz on a 5 year contract so is selling his car - it is a vaux monaro 5.7 v8, its done 12k miles on a 04 plate, he was going to place an autotrader ad for a quick sale for around 21k, but will sell it to me for 17k, now that seems a good price for a 350bhp v8 motor. I dont mind the badge, and I seem to remember top gear saying how great they are, but has anyone got one or owned one and what are they like to live with, i know mpg will be awful etc etc, but what is servicing like and are they a good motor to own in terms of reliability. Got an insurance quote already and happy with that side (500 quid fully comp) - so opinions please...??

For £17K for 1 year old and less than 35K miles would be a bargain.

Go for it! (I would) :thumb:

(cheapest dealer's car of that spec is £19K )

i'd have it,very rare ,very quick ,beast of an engine, rear drive you'd have to be a bit shallow to be put off by the badge imo,,i reckon if you can afford go for it.:thumb:

Never been in one or driven one have read and heard nothing but good things. Evo loved it, Clarkson liked it. Arse out fun for very good money - and it's not often I find myself saying that ;)

17.9 mpg on average according to the Autocar long term test car.

Nice though if you can live with that.

I'd get it - they are absolutely gorgeous cars. I want one!

I'd snap it up... i just love the sound of the motor, also very tunable should you wish to go down that route...;)

Thanks for all your comments guys,, yeh i can live with the mpg as i wont do massive miles in it.. Going for a test drive couple of days after xmas so lets hope it floats my boat..

Rang up vaux and there are only a handful of dealers (12 in the uk i think) than can service them, luckily one is fairly local so that should be ok, also they reckoned on around 100 notes for a minor service and 180 for a major so that was a bonus..

Yeah go for it. Great cars.

Although if you wait 12 months, you will pay a lot less than that. Thank the badge snobs, who shun it "because its a Vauxhall". Suits me fine: I will be in the market for one then, when its a complete bargain. Just like my current VX220 was when I bought it.

That's all I get with my Scooby (04 STi Jap Spec) but not complaining, only smiling and filling it up again.

Don't forget to tell us how your test drive goes.

I'd definately buy it, rare as hens teeth, i've only ever seen 2, and one was at a car show so doesn't really count

Paul_M 26 December 2005 02:14 PM

Never driven or even seen one yet, but it looks like a cracking car and the depreciation caused by badge snobbery only adds to the appeal as a second hand purchase. V8 engines are fantastic, I have a BMW 840Ci with a 4.4 V8 and it sounds fantastic when pressing on. The Monaro will probably sound even better as the BMW is quite muted in typical BMW uber-refined fashion. I'm very tempted to get one when the price comes down a little further.

Definitely go for it if the test drive lives up to your expectations.

The Chief 03 January 2006 09:45 PM

Crazy Chick 03 January 2006 09:49 PM
