I wish to thank everyone for making me welcome and I had a brilliant weekend at Outon park dispite some bad luck. I had only done 11/4 cicuits recky laps before my Mass Air Flow Meter packed up and thus ended my race day.
Thanks to the Moat House crew Stef, Harj, Richard, Paul, Chuj(sorry was close?) the Scottish Elise boys, the Worcester gang Sqizz, Karen, Boomer, o' er brain fade and everyone else I met.
Very big special thanks Tim, 4 mechanics and Bosses at Listers Subaru who spent a good couple of hours in the cold and dirt trying to get the car going. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
I did manage to get a few passenger laps, the driver thought he'd suddenly lost about 30 Hp (I must stop eating pasties)! but I did really appreciated and pretended to steer it! sad but true.
Now I feel part of the SIDC as everyone rallied round to help. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Bad news about the car Tony, hope she's fixed soon. Was great to meet you and have a couple of beers the night before too, make sure you get her fixed and your at the next trackday! Should be fun.

And where were you when I came back into the Pitlane? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Harj,
I was really annoyed missing a ride in your 22B but the breakdown man had arrived. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
Called back Then the lister crash held up saw you then again starting to droul at the thought of a sit in the 22b and then the Recovery vehicle came to take us both back to Hereford. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif
I have a big right foot and been getting 145 mile per tank around town to 180 on a run. This could explain hig fuel usage if MAP was failing!!
See you at the next meet wind in my favour http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Tony.
It was nice to meet you, sorry you didn't make a full day of it. Anyway, I managed to sell your place so you can have some money back or attend a future event. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
I also have your Subaru Assistance card which I'll get sent nack to you.

Stef.

hegie 29 January 2001 09:11 PM

where is the mass air flow meter and what does the car do when it fails

T5NYW 29 January 2001 11:33 PM

Hegie,
If you look where the flexible pipe jions the Air filter box at the back you will see an electrical connection, THATS the MAF sensor.
Some tecky might put me right but I believe it gives a 0-20ma signal to the ECU and from that it injects the correct amount of fuel to that volume of air.
The symtoms were that the engine conked out and would start up and run for 600rpm and 5 secounds then stop. Disconected the plug of the sensor and the car would run for ever but like a bag of nails.(uses a default setting) This would then bring up the engine waning light on the dash.
Don't run engine for long or hard like this or could do serious damage to your wallet.
Tony

thanks I think may MAF gave up at oulton as it sounds like the same problem

Paul J 01 February 2001 12:16 PM

Hegie,

yes, the symptoms were similar so it would be worth looking at this first (I was having tyres fitted when you had the problem, and had heard Tony's car earlier).

Tony,
sorry you had that disappointment. I'm sure that you'll enjoy a full day, next time out.

hegie Ive sent you an E-mail.
I have got mine repaired under warranty http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
But I had a new panel filter on my 30k service, of SUBARU course http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif, otherwise NO warranty http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif fitted over 200 miles ago. seem to remember reading that changing filter may be connected to the failure. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

might be up Donny Just watching
Tony.
