Wireless ICS problem please help !!!

Right ,
Trying to get the daughters laptop to share my internet connection , I have a ADSL Wireless -G- Router connected to my PC via a Ethernet cable and plugged into my phone line , both PCs can see each other via a USB INEXO WLAN 802.11G USB adapter , But I cant get them to share an internet connection (I have a connection on my PC )
error reads

Internet sharing cannot be enabled
A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address
that is required for automatic IP addressing

And I dont know what to do !!Please note the time of this post and I have been tyring to solve this since 11 yesterday morning

somebody please help :)

does the wireless g router have a modem built in ?

If so you do not need to enable ICS, just enable DHCP on your daughters laptop and it should theoretically work ?

Which wireless g router is it ?

Actually reading your comments you shouldnt have to do anything if you can see each others pcs across the wireless network ?

In the network properties on both pcs, <start-control panel-network connections> you should see a local area connection, if you right click on this on BOTH pcs and choose properties, there should be at least 3 or 4 protocols listed one will be Internet Protocol TCP/IP, if you double click on it, it should show a screen that should look like this

http://www.oit.duke.edu/access/images/xpip.jpg

if it is like this DHCP is enabled on both machines, the router will assign these addresses and her internet connection should work !

If there are figures such as 192.168.0.1 in either machine that machine is not enabled for DHCP and has a static ip address !

You have 2 choices really,

From your post it sounds like your pc may be on that address ?

1) I would double check the router manual, and check how you are supposed to configure it using the router as a DHCP server, (if this is possible) and remove any entries from this section on both computers.

or 2) you could put another ip address on your daughters laptop that is something like 192.168.0.2 with the other settings identical to yours !

Hope some of this helps (and/or makes any sense) :)

Its working !!! :luxhello::luxhello:

I sorted it last night about 2 am , I right clicked on the wireless network connection highlighted TCP/IP clicked properties and clicked obtain IP address automatically and that did it :thumb:

which is basically what you told me Ian ;)
many thanks

Kevin
