Must have blinked at that bit - but he can still come round and see my collection any time - I'm sure I've sold him stuff in the past :D

16vmarc 21 December 2005 09:05 PM

Just watched this too!

I have many a memory of standing on lego!!!

Milamber 21 December 2005 09:11 PM

I really wanted that Airfix plane that landed on the aircraft carrier when I was younger, can't believe how crap it looks now

Steve1968 21 December 2005 11:28 PM

I was there ......

....in the RAF museum at Hendon when he was filming the clip of the lego Lancaster - took all morning for a few seconds of tape - they kept having to stop for kids shouting nearby :lol1:

SD 21 December 2005 11:59 PM

I've got a full meccano no 10 set in the original drawers, with all the manuals etc. Additionally I have the steam engine, a few electric motors, clockwork motors etc. Meccano rocked and I can't believe how much my grandad paid for it for me! :eek2: A quick search for completed auctions on ebay earlier tonight shows the no.10 set alone goes for £2k. Never selling it though, it's my pride and joy.

Had it, it indeed was carp :D when it worked

AAhh the joys of standing on Lego  no doubt I'll have it to look forward to in a few years once my son is old enough to play with it

DJ73 22 December 2005 06:17 AM

thought it was good but he should have junked the box infront of the collector's etc, like he say's they were ment to be played with not just collected , kid's today have very little imagination if not none !!! they get bored far too easy they would have been well fcuked back then

SD 22 December 2005 07:31 AM

He made a very good point throughout the show. I'm only 27 and remember my childhood being all about scalextric, hornby trains and so on. You made your own fun and then you packed it all away before tea, unlike kids today where they expect fun to appear before them with a PS2 controller dropping into their hands.

And he was spot on about the modern day meccano and lego too - Why have all these custom pieces? Half the fun was taking apart the digger/truck/bus that you were supposed to build and putting together something completely different like a tank or plane. You can't do that with this modern stuff. :(

Simon.

pauld37 22 December 2005 08:03 AM

I remember the aircraft take off, landing thingy by airfix, my kids would laugh at that now :D

tmo 22 December 2005 08:25 AM

Sure i went to school with him and his brother.

dsmith 22 December 2005 09:07 AM

Quality Program

My life was lego for years :D

Nicci 22 December 2005 09:38 AM

Brought back good memories.

Anyone else impressed to see action mans parachute actually work?

Leslie 22 December 2005 11:50 AM

I'd lay odds that he took the boxes home anyway!

Les

stilover 22 December 2005 12:52 PM

Quality programe. Brought back fantastic memories.
Made me laugh out loud too.

Petem95 22 December 2005 01:36 PM

I wonder if 5th Gear will copy the idea, and have a spin-off show;

'VBH's Toys' maybe? :norty:

InvisibleMan 22 December 2005 02:27 PM

lol ah memories :D i also had that action man'n'parachute that never opened, the number of times i threw it out of my bedroom window :D even at 3 storeys it never opened. limbs remained attached though...oh if only we had a rifle too... :D

Mungo 22 December 2005 03:00 PM

An utterly brilliant programme. Brought back a lot of very good memories. It really makes you wonder about today's kids and their total lack of imagination - everything has to be completely real for them.

Funny to see him socialising with Andrew Frankel and Colin Goodwin!

Steve vRS 22 December 2005 03:35 PM

Is it repeated at all?

Steve

There's a torrent been posted on http://www.uknova.com if you want to download it.

chrisowe 22 December 2005 07:47 PM

i also had that action man'n'parachute that never opened,
What had a lot to do with was how you folded the chute. I used to throw mine up in the air, and it worked fine (brings back memories of rescuing it from next doors garden.

ODB 22 December 2005 08:33 PM

So who's off to get their old scalextric and hornby sets out?

What a fanastic program, if only there were more programs like this than the normal stuff they pump out. If only they would do a follow up to cover the 80s I'd be in heaven.

dsmith 22 December 2005 08:44 PM

Big Trak here we come ;-)

I thought they'd do a bit on Cross Fire - I saw it in the background at one point.
