WR1 has already taken its big hit in depreciation, 06STi hasn't.

What I'd like to know more about is how the two stack up as cars in their own right.

WR1 (320) has 40ps more than the 06STI (280) as standard I believe. Ok you can upgrade to the PPP when it comes out but then you're insurance will most likely increase.
WR1 insurance is no more than a standard STI in my experience, and you've got the PPP, alloys and suspension upgrade thrown in which would all add to your bill if you changed these on an STI.

WR1 has dccd-a although its apparently been tweaked for the 06, but I can't believe the average punter will notice hugely. I would certainly agree that the second hand car should depreciate less, but then I don't think 27k is a particularly sensible price for a year old WR1 (unless its done very low miles and is mint). As a guide, I didn't pay a lot more for a brand new one a year ago.

Given the choice of the 2 (being as you aren't asking about other options....) I'd knock some money off the WR1 and have that - but then I am biased ;-)

The only thing that I would maybe wait for is to see what the 06 PPP delivers just in case it brings a huge jump for the new STI.

Get an 06 DCCD STi from Iain and it will have all the power and be a great car for the same money.

Or for a couple of grand more get the 06 Spec C (I am biased here!)

I really liked the WR1 - great to drive, great balance, ridiculous colour

I like my 06 Spec a whole lot more - and they were the two cars I was considering.

Not tried a Type 25 as a new one was too rich for my taste - supposed to be quite reasonable though ;)

The things that worry me about imports are : residual value, warranty and insurance. It's the same for a lot of people I've spoken to, so it's a personal decision as to what risk (real or percieved) you are up for.

I test drove a WR1 and a 06 STi back to back at the weekend. The WR1 made me grin from ear to ear it also turns heads. The 06 car only had 12 miles on the clock so still very tight but I still think that it wouldn't be as much fun as a WR1, easier to drive sedately though with the new engine so you pays your money etc..

Spec C reckon your get a new one almost the money your looking to spend

Even in standard form with a UK remap it is fantastic but then Ive got one :-)

I have a M3 csl currently and have owned a m3 and a wr1 in the past and have recently been looking at a used t25 at Litchfield and i have to say they are all excelent cars but all have their strenghts and weaknesses , ultimatly though none of these cars can realy be pushed to thier limits on public roads.

If the csl sells, I do have to say that as long as i can sort out insurance a used T25 or pos a spec c may very well be my next purchase, once you accept the lesser build quality of the scoobys interior, they do represent value for money compared to bmw and Audi.

We sang lots of choruses of this to a WR1 owing friend last summer ;)

Still a great drive - if not quite as good as the MY06 Spec C which seems to be getting the majority of votes :D

Why would you want to go back with technology ?? When the way forward is a 2.5Ltr 06 ??? Once PPP'd will be a far superior motor

with classics IMO , the JDM cars where always the best way to go if mapped for the UK fuel , especially if you where planning to mod. lighter,better block,heads and stronger gearboxes , some with dccd but then no abs. the new cars are much closer.

I have driven a UK my06 sti and would love to try a spec-c. I suspect that low down the spec-c will actually be stronger than the uk car. with the uk ppp/remapped , both I suspect will be similar but the spec-c can be mapped to give more at the top end.

if I was buying one , to run the factory turbo , I would probably take the spec-c. the sharper steering, oil cooler and lighter car mean more to me than the uk specs. however if swapping the turbo to run around 400bhp , the taller uk gearbox might have the edge here but then the spec-c does have better heads,oil cooler and possibly more reliable head gaskets if really going for it on a standard engine.

as to this thread, I would take a 06 over a wr1 at the same money, I would take a my05ppp over a wr1. the my05 has heavier wheel bearings and chassis tweaks the wr1 missed.
