I attended a 'driveme.net' silver session today.

Silver gives you (at the Stafford venue) -
  • a passenger ride round the track in a Subaru WRX
  • three/four laps around the track in a Subaru STi PPP (?)
  • three/four laps of the track in a Mitsubushi Evo (8?)
  • three/fours laps on a gravel section in a knackered old VW Polo.

Verdict:
Can't say I was that impressed by a) the amount of time you are allowed to go out for and b) not being able to properly give it some round certain bends. The rally bit could have been more enjoyable had they again, increased the length of the session.
The instructors don't even know what the specs of the cars are... one told me the Scooby and Evo's had 400bhp but they most certainly didn't!

Conclusion:
If you looking for a breathtaking experience then save your money and do a trackday or a more expensive rally day. However, if you're desperate to 'test drive' one of these cars then maybe this is a good opportunity to put one against the other.

Hope this helps anyone who is contemplating one of these......

I did a track day at the Croft circuit for my birthday (30th cough) and got to drive a variety of cars under excellent instruction. A few more laps would have been ideal but then again I could have stayed out there all day. Excellent experience. :thumb:

Sounds like you got a bit of a duff instructor :(

My mate works there and his knowledge of what goes on and what is what is second to none. As for giving it some... sometimes if you speak to them beforehand they will asses your skill on a different level ;) If you turn up and assume the role of just being one of the masses then you will get treated like one.

Go prepared :)

Just pop into your local Subaru Dealers and take an Impreza Turbo out for a 24 hour Test Drive ................ and do a bit of rallying :lol1:

Do the same at the Mitso garage ......

Pretty cheap and thrilling :thumb:

I had multiple instructors on the day. Agreed the know their stuff. Bit difficult to go prepared when you don't know what to expect but now I do I won't be going back for another go - my main gripe is that you just don't get long enough on the track - 20mins would have been ideal.

depends on your dealer mate - all the ones round my way don't give you 24hour drives.

I did one of their driving days very similar to this a few years ago, I think it was in Shropshire although I might be wrong. I thought exactly the same as you. Not much time in any car, 4/5 laps of what was essentially a car park. Not overly impressed, neither was the Mrs who had paid for it! I wouldn't bother.
