Evo IX and Subaru STi face off

I know what you mean.... something along the lines of,
'The Impreza is excellent at what it does, but the evo does it better!' It's as if the motoring press are held at gun-point by Mitsubishi every time! |
is it possible the evo really is better in the eyes of the author?
|
Everytime? Why would anybody then buy an Impreza? :Whatever_
|
I had a sneaky look on the evo register site, and the 1st thread I came upon was along the lines of "why does the likes of andy f's impreza always beat the likes of 700hp evos on the 1/4 mile, when the impreza is of lesser power".
That made quite enjoyable reading, I think the boxer engine must have the edge over the inline 4 of the evo. |
not having driven a evo myself i can't confirm or deny this but people i know who have driven both say the evo is not as much of a drivers car than impreza, the fancy electronics in the evo take away some of the drivers conatct with the road through the car.
also evo's sound lame compared to the scooby burble :) |
Good review, enjoyed reading, thanks.

plus evos are crap at wrc so the wan*ers pull out again

This review also has a cool video

If I were after a "Track" car my my income depended on lap times ;) i would get the EVO. If I was after a nearly as fast "Shopping car" also do some fun Track time I'd get a Subaru and have one  I have driven EVO's and been around a track in one, Awesome  The EVO is a very very capable car and could still flatter an average driver like me. The Upside of the EVO is you never ever feel the Car won't go around any corner :D a bit like playing GT4 in invincable mode, amazing. Which to me was also it's downside I need warnings to slow me up as I'm not playing GT4 and I'm not invincable. This is my personal view. IMHO Tony |
Hmmm what I find intersting in these articles is the small print e.g. in this one "The test Evo IX vehicle was fitted with the $3700 performance pack, which includes lighter BBS forged alloy wheels and Bilstein dampers. Which one would we have as the back-road blaster of choice?" Well let me see I wouldn't mind the performance pack myself!!! I have also seen several FQ320 up against standard STi's in reviews and which again do you think will win? They should use the FQ300 vs the STi fully ppp'd for reasonable comparisons as the prices would also be similar. When I was making a choice to go for the Evo or Subaru (only recently joint the scooby club in July) from the world of standard cars I drove both and now know the Scooby rocks

I think the general concensus is that the Evo is the more focused of the two and better on a track and the Scooby is the better everday car and has more character. From my back to back drive of an Evo and scooby, that's the verdict I'd give, although I would say that I thinkk the scooby would be faster on most UK backroads as it deals with bumps better! They both seem to be meeting each other in the middle though, with the evo becomming a bit softer and the Scooby becomming a bit harder. NS04 |
