Porting a TD05
Is this just as simple as porting the turbo intake to match the gasket to the up-pipe?
i've read about porting the wastegate is it worth it? if so whats involved in porting it? MY99 UK Turbo Car Spec ------------------------ Ported Headers with 45mm up-pipe TD05 FE Turbo Hybrid Front Mount Walbro and SX Fuel reg Parralell Fuel Mod Full 2.5" Decat with open mouth downpipe Apexi / Tek 3 (Not decided yet) 3 Port boost soleniod (Maybe Apexi AVCR) Cold Air Intake |

You can make the exhaust entry to the turbo the same diameter as the uppipe diameter and let it taper smoothly into the turbo exhaust.
Porting the wastegate is to prevent boost creep which can be a problem with the TD05-06 20G. It is a matter of opening the wastegate port while maintaining a seal with the penny valve and smoothing out the housing around so you get the best possible gas flow. |
Is it not worth doing to a TD05 then?

Why port the waste gate if you have no boost creep. Leave it if you do not have a problem.

Porting the wastegate on a TD05-16G will only give you problems trying to maintain boost at a decent level. Not required unless your target boost is less than 0.8 bar.

Porting is quite easy. Once you have the turbo and uppipe in front of you it will become quite apparant. Measure the int uppipe dia and port the turbo until it matches. I ported it all the way through from the uppipe opening to the wastegate opening.
