Air Con/Heating woes
 
Hi chaps,

I've got a JDM MY99 Imprezza WRX Wagon. As is usual in Japan, it has air con. It's just developed a fault which means that it can seemingly only supply hot air to the cabin, no mixing with any cool ambient air, it all goes through the heat exchanger.

Has anyone come across this problem before? Has anyone got any links to workshop manuals for air-con/heating systems in MY99 WRX's ?

Would prefer not to spend the money going to a dealer right now so will attempt to fix myself first. Hope its not a dashboard out job :confused:

Nope. But I've got a 98 WRX wagon that's just had an air con recharge but for some reason now the weather's cold, it won't demist the screen hardly at all, even when the air is piping hot. Weird

sounds like air con not working.
why did it have a recharge? if it was because of gas loss are you sure it has not leaked out again ?do a few checks under bonnet
do rad fans come on when air con turned on?
does compressor run ? it will click when energised and front pulley face on compressor will start spinning.
pipe from compressor to condensor(rad) will be hot and pipe back to compressor should be cold.

Coolant shut off valve on the heater matrix is broke/stuck or leaking.


( Can't confirm if it has one - but most cars do ;) )

Just cos it was 7 years and 105k miles old when I bought it so I thought I might as well get it sorted - it didn't seem to blow very cold. Haven't looked under the bonnet but when you start the aircon you get a load of clicking and whirring going on and it definitely saps engine revs at idle. I'll check it over again though
