what is this sensor

the problem is when i go to fill up i try to start her but she only keeps turning and will not fire unless i get some one to turn the key whilst i (wiggle) the two wires then she fires up i think the sensor is a crank piston sensor. would it be wise to cut the wires and reconnect them. the sensor works ok i have put it on my old mans and vise vera but stll same problem thanks guys its a 96 sti import |
