Back Seat Firewall....

SO with the installing of a Roll Cage and the Removal of the Back Seats and a Fuel Tank in the boot, i now need a fire-wall to prevent any miss haps.

So what's the best approach will some simple alluminium welded over the gaping gap into the boot surfice ?

Thanks Chris.

No.
1
For competition the hole across the back seat can be WIDE open as the tank/filler is sealed off from the cabin.
2
The cars have a stippled board across the gap when the back seat is out totally.
I left the steel cross bar (to stop luggage penetrating the passenger cell on head-on impact) in place and glues thin black carpet over the back and squab area as i carry track tyres in the back nowadays and not people.
3
No need to weld a bulkhead in there, mastic and pop rivit alloy sheet is fine.

Excuse my ignorance, you mean that the tank is sealed securly enough. It's just that my tank is going to be inside the Boot and so is visable from the two front seats. Is this still ok ??

Thanks for your help
Chris.

No! Sorry, that is me missing your description. You confused me when you said welding ally sheet to a steel chassis; can't be done.

If you are fitting another tank and it is in the boot space and visible, then you MUST seal the bulkhead.
You can still do this with alloy sheet and pop rivits.
Seal the sheet to the chassis with a silicon mastic in every nook and cranny.

Will a simple sillicone glue be sufficient or will i need a special fire retardent sealant ?? (if one exists)

Thanks Chris.

Rivets and polyurethane adhesive (like silkaflex) would be very secure, and quite permanent, do without adhesive for easier removal. Silicone will not stick to the aluminium very well at all, but will seal nicely and make for much easier removal.
