Laptop DVD-RW drive stopped working.
My QSI DVD-RW drive has decided to stop working on my laptop. :( I burned a few MP3 CD-R's end of last week no problem but it now won't recognise any type of disc. It makes several attempts to spin up but never gets going. I have unistalled the drive and re-booted at which point it finds the new hardware. All my settings seem right. Any ideas before I declare it fubar'd?
If I do have to go get a new drive, what makes/models are recommended? I take it you simply whip the old drive out, slot the new drive in, boot up and let it find the drive and then install the drivers? Thanks in advance. |
You could always try flashing the firmware - if it's screwed you aren't going to lose anything: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.ph...&manufactor=33

Cheers for the link Kieran.
Re-flashed the Firmware but still no go. :( |
Try a cdrom/dvd lens cleaner, if no joy then it's dead.
