Ive just been sacked/laid off

I was called into the office this morning and on the way there the union guy said its not good! We went in and they told me they would be letting me go (hence why im on here!) for not producing the required amount of work, they said some weeks im 6hrs down, 8hrs down and some weeks 18 and 27hrs down so they would be letting me go. They then said give us 5 minutes, we returned and they said, no, we're still letting you go!

I was told to return my locker and toolbox keys and then leave without clocking out, which was nice. So said a few goodbyes and now im giving you guys the low down!

Below is a thread giving the background!

Bad news m8, but should be a relief after all the grief you have had. A bit sh!t that they couldnt wait until after Christmas though, what a bunch of cnuts.

New_scooby_04 05 December 2005 11:48 AM

Sorry to hear that mate. The timing sucks, but it appears you weren't happy with the situation at your previous place of employment, so this may be a good opportunity for a fresh start for the new year.

All the best.

Unlucky fella :(

Did the union rep give you any help WRT unfair dismissal, tribunals, etc?

Leslie 05 December 2005 11:57 AM

Sorry to hear about that, especially just now. Hope you find something better.

Les

16vmarc 05 December 2005 11:58 AM

Yeah the union guy has been helping me but there was only ever so much he could do, and to be honest once their minds made up they dont really want to hear your side.

ALi-B 05 December 2005 12:02 PM

With all the aggro you've been getting there, and by going on what you previously posted that they were putting impossible expectations on your work and issueing warnings over matters out of your control. Then I just can't help thinking that there was a case of constructive dismissal going on. Obviously you staying put meant they had to push you out themselves instead.

It sucks, and there are plenty of businesses out there like that. I hope you find a better job in the future.

Get revenge. REVENGE I say!

Hi mate

I've also been pooed on for Xmas. Although I am a contractor but I was asked if I would consider going permenant 2 weeks ago. I said I'd think about it. Suddenly last week, the offer was withdrawn and I was told I wouldn't be needed on contract any more either!
I think there are some issues in the department I was going to go permenant with which were not identified at "management level" until recently.
Never mind, they are letting me stay until the 22nd and I plan for 2 1/2 week break at Xmas anyway.
Hope there's work in the early New Year for us lot then!

Nick

I'm with mart. stop sitting on your ass posting on here, get it down to the citizen's advice bureau sharpish!

pslewis 05 December 2005 01:19 PM

Thats a bummer mate .......... as has been said get to the CAB, at the very least they will tell you how to make it uncomfortable for your old employers.

Luckily I don't have to worry abouts hours and such like ........... but, I did once, when I worked on the assembly line at Black & Decker!

16vmarc 05 December 2005 02:18 PM

As for sitting on my arse!, Ive just spent the last 2 hours in town! I went back to Manpower as i hadnt heard from them. They have my cv on file and said they would call this afternoon. I also went to Adecco and i shall be sending them my cv, they specialise in admin work. I popped into the job centre on the way back to the car and they gave me a number to ring for job seekers allowance. They also said i dont need to call in to look at jobs as theyre all on their website. So i shall be looking on there.

My mate said if im stuck for money he can get me bar work at York Race Course, but thats a last resort!

and burn the factory down. :luxhello:

iamevilhomer 05 December 2005 03:08 PM

i myself got sacked earlier in the year and i looked on it as positively as i could. I now have my own business and have earned more than i would have done previously, plus i know that if i put the effort in the rewards are there.
You just have to try and look at it as when one door closes behind you there's another one waiting to be opened. It doesnt sound like you will, but try not to let bitterness at them take priority. Get whatever you are entitled to from them and then just move on.

Good luck:thumb:

16vmarc 05 December 2005 03:12 PM

Thats exactly what im going to do evilhomer, ive not liked the job for a while and have wanted a change in career for some time now. Its just while i was there i never really had the incentive to do anything about it, as much as i wanted to leave.

Theyve recently taken on some new welders and apprentices, it will be interesting to see how long they last as faces come and go there all the time. Someone was suspended also today for 1 week because he went home in a mood last week and theyve since noticed hes done his job wrong!

Some fit birds go though!

16vmarc 05 December 2005 03:36 PM

Yeah there is!

Lee247 05 December 2005 05:05 PM

Sounds like a lousy company to work for, you now have the opportunity to get better.
Good Luck and I hope it all works out for you :)

pete1977 05 December 2005 05:30 PM

I think you should weld all your arsehole bosses cars together.

fatscoobyfella 05 December 2005 05:47 PM

I take it you was working to timed jobs then??
Was you loads of hours down?
If not,go to a tribunal and take them for anything that you can get..

I was in a similar situation a number of years ago,i ended up with a couple of grand for unfair dismissal.

It worth a go...:)

16vmarc 05 December 2005 06:28 PM

Timed jobs yeah.

Some weeks im 8hrs down and others upto 18hrs. They said 27hrs too but as its a 39hr week i cant see how.

They say the targets are fair. They wont discuss anyone elses times.

I was only moved teams last month and was learning new jobs. Nothing had been said until this morning.

Take them to a tribunal and say you made a few complaints re H&S and were quickly dismissed.

Being dismissed over H&S concerns is one of the few things you can pretty much guarantee for success at a tribunal. I have a m8 who was sacked by his company under similar grounds to those you describe, the company always breached a fair few H&S laws but the m8 never bothered about them while on good terms. Once he got sacked he went straight down the tribunal route, citing the H&S concerns as why he thought they had it in for him. He won no problem, even though the company claimed this was not the reason for dismissal. Let’s face it, they sound well dodgy and will probably have broken a few ground rules regarding your dismissal anyway. Even if they never gave you the opportunity to have someone (of your choosing) in with you at the dismissal hearing (union member, friend whatever) then they are pretty well stuffed.

Good luck.
