Boost solenoid question
 

Hello all.
Just got a quick question about my boost solenoid.
I have a 3 port solenoid and my question is regarding the pipe that comes straight off the bottom of it.
I believe this goes to the air box, but the connection to the air box is damaged and the pipe will no longer fit there.
Will running the car with this pipe unconnected create a problem with the car in any way?
The other pipes are all OK, its just the bottom one to the air box thats unconnected.

as far as im aware this is just a pipe to vent off the excess boost.

I don't think it is quite as simple as that. I am not 100% sure, as i am doing this from memory from a while ago, but I am pretty sure there is a metal restrictor in that pipe that reduces the amount of airflow, and drilling out the restrictor can effect your boost. In the same way not having it plugged into your air box which might be at a lower pressure than the outside air could have an effect.....possibly???


Unless you've seal your resonator you will be drawing in unflitered air there.

My resonator box was damaged at the same place so I got a second hand one from grade-A for about £10 I think. you could also try ebay as someone was selling loads of stuff from a crashed 1994 WRX on there the other day very cheaply (eg £5 for a crank sensor, £10 for an intake manifold....I wanted to buy it all as it was so cheap but just didn't need it so could not justify.)

Out of curiosity, what happens to this pipe if you fit an induction kit?

guess it just gets plugged in somewhere between the filter and the turbo inlet

Not sure about running the car with the pipe off, what Roojai says makes sense, although if you had a high performance filter then the pressure difference before and after it should be low, one thing to make sure of is that you blank the broken hole on the inlet pipe side, could be pulling muck straight from the engine bay into the engine.....not good.
