Grade A (bad report)

I’ve just bought an engine from them last week its came we fitted it was pretty good

One problem the head gasket had gone. Now I spoke to them yestday I adv situ they said

Andy not here he will have to make a decison on weather or not they will pay for head gasket.

(Pls note that this happen sat and Im being charge for the car being kept at my friend garage and for the work being

Carried out)

Spk to Andy today was not very helpful refused to pay for new gasket or any work being carried out he did how ever

Offer to send me a new engine which I declined on because he wants to take away engine I have and send me one

By next week which is no good to me as Im getting charge.

Now we all know if he takes engine away I have no guarantee that Im going to get another engine plus Im sure

He wants to see if Im telling the truth. But more to the point he might fix engine and sent it back to me with out

Doing the job correct by skimming the head and replacing oil stem seals etc.

Now he also states my mechanic was not doing my job correct stating that the head gasket were not gone I adv

Him that we did correct test. Now Andy only work on Subaru’s for 5 yrs he making out he know all well Im sorry

To say that someone who been in the trade for over 15 yrs plus know more.

He has now lost a customer plus friend of mine as well who have Scooby so my point Im saying is don't by a engine from this

Company.

I did here goods thing about this place but after this I won't be recommending him to anyone.

Sorry i fail to se why your so angry and not impressed.

Ok so the h/g had gone, its somthing ythat happens, if the car comes in as a non runner you cant always tell.

In all fairness they have offered to replace the engine, its you who has declined.

have you spoken to the old boy or the youngsters at grade A

afiak its the youngsters who are more helpfull.

but its your choice if you dont want to accept an engine.

which correct me if im wrong, getting a new engine would be quicker than waiting for one to be repaired

I'm sorry, i'm really struggling to read the first post.

You're not an ebay scammer are you, you write just like they do :Suspiciou

stevebt 22 November 2005 08:20 PM

you bought a 2nd hand engine with a slight fault !!!! it happens, if you dont want this to happen again buy new :p

rooferman 22 November 2005 08:20 PM

Why is your friend charging you to keep your car at his garage?

Why should,nt grade a inspect the engine your claiming is faulty?

Why do you think they will not replace the engine with another one?

I have dealt with Grade a a number of times, and have had a problem with a part which was dealt with quickly, and at there expense....

Why dont you give them a chance before badmouthing them on this bbs, this bad report just doesn,t add upp imo.

andypugh2000 22 November 2005 08:21 PM

I cant understand it either, its like a 5 yr old has written it..... makes no sense at all :cuckoo:

scooby-woo 22 November 2005 08:23 PM

Agreed where is the problem, they have offerd you a replacement engine. I think under the circumstances thats fair ! you are wrong coming on to the board and slating them before you get it sorted.. and what kind of freind charges you to keep your car at there gargage .........

DocJock 22 November 2005 08:28 PM

Sounds like they are being fair, in my opinion.

You, on the other hand are not, by suggesting he may take the engine and not replace it. That attitude stinks.

ps, you might get a few more replies if you made an attempt to post in something resembling English.

turboman1 22 November 2005 08:32 PM

first of all id like to point out that i am not a 5 year old and i was only putting this post up as many people would recommend him and im saying that i dont. the point of the matter was that he wont offer compensation and i was aksing him to only help pay for the gasket which from a buisness point of view would of been a cheaper option. as many of you will know it can be hard to go without a car for this length of time over 2 weeks and very costly. im getting charged to keep the car at a friends garage because all the while it is there he is unable to work on another car which means buisness loss for him. id like it if possible in future that you do not critise me because of the way i type. i have every right to express my opion weather good or bad.
p.s i did do spell check on what i typed

highlander68k 22 November 2005 08:32 PM

I can understand your frustration.

At the same time I can see Andrew's concern too. Businesses are subjected to dodgy people almost daily, whether it be credit card fraud or people just trying it on to get themselves a bargain. I can understand why they want it back before letting you have anything else.

[edited here] Get your friend to tow the car outside your house (or a friends) without the engine. He can then get on with some work.

If you want the current engine to be overhauled, then you should be charged for it. The price you paid is not for a part re-conditioned engine, so why should Grade-A carry out work that wasn't in the price. They might as well do the complete engine and charge somebody else a proper price for it.

I would take the offer of another engine as long as you don't have to pay any carriage. I think that's a satisfactory result.

As for Grade-A, maybe they'll spend a short amount of time doing a compression test on future used engines to stop the same thing happening (if they don't already).

rooferman 22 November 2005 09:02 PM

The weather is sometimes good and bad!

iamevilhomer 22 November 2005 09:07 PM

how much

how much compensation are you looking for in regards to the storage, the gasket and labour? I don't care how many years experience a mechanic has, i would still go to a specialist for any engine work,

turboman1 22 November 2005 09:31 PM

just some money towards the gaskets and skimming the head thats it ill pay the labour as id need to in any circumstance anyway. he is a specialist in subarus and modified cars thats why i trust him.

seems a bit odd??

if you trust him, why not get him to source the engine.. rather thatn you go to a breaker, then any issues with h/g or other faults would down to him to sort out.

incidentlay, why do you need a new engine?? or did you b*gger the old one and want a cheap replacement

HA HA HA HA HA THAT WAS GAS!!!!!!!!:lol1: :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

And so wat if head gasket was gone. Thats a minor minor thing. You sound like you want a full refund and to keep the engine as well. Don't see your problem!!:cuckoo: :cuckoo:

scoobyboy 22 November 2005 10:46 PM

it depends on how the engine was described if it was described as "full working order" then something should be done, if it was described as "not tested" or "unable to test" then you takes your chances.

Grade A 22 November 2005 10:46 PM

Response to BAD REPORT

:nono:
I am AMAZED at the at the audacity of this customer. These are the facts and I would ask all our valued customers to judge us on that before condeming us.

1: I received a telephone call this morning from this customer. I was unable to take his call yesterday due to other business commitments.

2: The customer stated that the engine I supplied had faulty head gaskets, as the engine had overheated after start up. I asked the question "had it been filled correctly with coolant, how long had it run for and what suggested a head gasket problem" He replied "that a test had been carried out and it said that the head gasket had failed"

3: At this point I offered a replacement engine. I also offered to collect the other engine and supply the new engine, at my expense.

4: The customer refused this offer and said he wanted to put new head gaskets on and skim the heads. I replied, I think in my extensive experience of OVER 20 Years (not 5) that it would be quicker and easier to replace the engine than to strip it and replace the gaskets as it might not be the head gaskets that are causing the problem, it could be a cracked block or another failure. Therefore if the probelm is not the head gasket then replacing them and skiming the heads will not solve the problem and would cause a longer delay and expense to the customer.

I attempted to resolve the situation with the fasted and most convenient method available.

5: At aprox 3.30pm the customers mechanic telephoned me about the situation. I told him my views, and told him that I would arrange collection of the faulty engine and a replacement engine would be with him by this Friday morning. He said he would contact the customer and let me know. Since then I have heard nothing except this bad post at 9pm on Scooby net. May I also add that the customer did THREATEN me with this post and I resent the fact that this new scooby net user has used this method to try to resolve a matter that could very easily have been resolved today, weather permitting!

Lastly, company policy is usually to ask for the old unit in exchange for the new one when engines are supplied. This customer was not asked for his old unit when he purchased the engine due to stock levels. I would like to know what the original old engine failed on..was it head gaskets???

Andy.
p.s.many thanks to all the positive responses to this matter, from the regular Scooby Net users

BVM 22 November 2005 11:16 PM

Sounds like Grade A is in the clear to me. You offered to replace it, I dont know what more the guy could expect. Maybe he just wanted new head gaskets? If so, thats a piss poor way to go about it.

Jamo 23 November 2005 12:28 AM

sounds like Grade A have done more than enough, Turboman you should have taken the replacement engine in the first place.

if it was me in grade A's position, I would tell you to sling your hook now, especially after TRYING to slate them on here.

The only thing you have achieved on this thread, in my opinion, is to make yourself look immature and petty.

I have talked to grade A on several occasions, the last time I was about to purchase an item for my central locking, the bloke I talked to, talked me through what to look for, and actually figured I didnt need a part, how many companys do you know of, that would do that???? not many is my guess!

so a big thankyou goes out to Grade A, and please dont judge all SN members by this one particular member.

Jamo :)

Gidney&Knowlesy 23 November 2005 08:01 AM

Used Grade A for over 8 years & we probably source more parts than most & Andy & his team have always been helpful, given good customer service & more importantly reliable parts & engines.

For the record this post here by some person trying to wield an axe to crack a nut certainly won't stop us from ordering parts from Grade A, whom we shall continue to use & continue to recommend.

Milamber 23 November 2005 08:21 AM

Another vote for Grade A from me

Swen6 23 November 2005 09:35 AM

I've dealt with Grade A twice and not had any problems, the first time i ordered was for a double din stereo surround, got quoted a price and thought thats a bit much for a used part, but i received a brand new, in subaru packaging, part:eek:, wasn't expecting that.:thumb:

And the second was to get a P1 spoiler, it came with damage but hey, they are a salvage place, and nothing some filler didn't fix, they quoted me a price, and when i asked for a boot lid aswell they said i could have that as well with out charging me any extra:eek:, personally i think it was because of the Dodge Viper stipes why they didn't charge extra:D, well it's all painted and i just have to fit it all up.

And as customer service goes what else did you want him to come down and do the work for you?, and regarding your typing, SpellCheck checks for words that are spelt wrong not randomly placed.:lol1:

Kael 23 November 2005 12:54 PM

Grade A are fantastic, helpful and deliver when they say they will and from what you say there, thats what they are doing! Customer service is spot on.

You bought a 'used' engine from these guys, so you got a 'used' engine. As the 'used' engine is faulty, they are sending you another one at THEIR expense. What you are doing by asking them to replace the headgaskets etc. etc. is effectively asking them to rebuild the engine, which you have not payed for, and quite clearly it might not be this problem.

The Gaffer 23 November 2005 05:58 PM

Andy and the rest of the team have always been spot on.
As stated earlier its dificult & some times impossible to run an engine coming out of a breaker, which I assume this one has, so a decision as to its condition is made by taking an overall view of the car, somtimes this can backfire, lets not forget it is after all a second hand unit.
Andy has offered to swap the offending unit even though it may not be an engine issue, have we got a cooling system fault? has the system been bled correctly?
( early cars can be a bitch to bleed) has it been overheated when initaly running it up? all these questions need to be addressed.
In view of the above I think Andy has dealt with this issue in the only way he can, fairly!
Cheers
Kev.

pugoetru 23 November 2005 06:53 PM

Turboman you claim that the garage doing the work are subaru/modified car specialists well i can speak from first hand experience that these cars can show up head gasket symptoms and simply be too hot!!

I for one have thought my gaskets were gone due to a water leak that i could not see

I also gave up my garage bussiness partly because of people like you with so called experts who knew better

NOBODY in their right mind would want to do the gaskets on these engines rather than replace the engine as it is really an engine out job anyway and takes probably twice as long plus the cost of parts so would be the most expensive option

I have never dealt with grade a before but good reputations are earned by good work/service and they would not be in bussiness if they were shoddy

GROW UP

turboman1 23 November 2005 07:10 PM

I did not threaten anyone I advice andy that i would put a post on web site
people now adays jump the gun.If I threat him he would of know about it by legal action so get yr fact straight before u make that statement.

Second u did offer me a new engine but what promise do I have that this engine is fine none what so ever Im the kind of person if something not right i will fix it plus I do not wish to have more expence by re takening engine out again and put it back in again.

Third u stated to my mech that u would need old engine back first before u would even send me a new engine now u never stated that on the board.

Fourth I have picture of engine which clearly show head gasket has failed which i will be more then happy to add pic to web site.

LegacySTi 23 November 2005 07:18 PM

@TURBOMAN1 why would he send you second engine without getting first one back???
