Impreza WRX Saloon '03 Tow bar help ?
 

Hi there,

Anybody got any advise on Towbars for an '03 year WRX ?

I remember saying, ..."I'd never have a Tow Bar fitted" ... now a track bike has made me eat those words ...!

I've been round the loop of looking at Witter, Brink, Fixed or Detachable ... you name it I've looked at it. I could really do with some "Real Peoples" views and experiences.

p.s. I am not a secret Caravaner, it really is for a bike !

I've got the normal Subaru one on my MY03 STi. You can't see it when it's detached; it does the business when it's in use. I'd stick with that item - looks a hell of a lot better than some permanent thing, and it's not expensive.

Subaru detachable on my 03 WRX........fairly stealth, and is well made.

I have a normal witter fixed one on mine as my bike carrier is mounted between the ball and backplate and it doesn't fit to removeable swan neck type design.

It doesn't look great, but being a black towbar set against a black car its not too bad.

Also with the witter fixed one you can in effect remove it, although I'm told its a little time consuming therefore you wound want to be doing it each week. If you look at the witter site and the fixing instruction you will see what I mean.

I used TOWBEX to fit mine with single electrics, all in £208 at theri workshop extra £15 for mobile service

I've looked at the Witter towbars, and some fitters have said "Detachable" and other said "Fixed", since I'ill probably only use the trailer once in blue moon (basically, when the wife allows me to escape) then I'm quite happy to unbolt the main brace when not in use, and then put in back the night before.

The Scooby Bar looks great, ... stealthy and tucked right under there out of sight ! I think I had a quote for one of these some months ago and £400 was mentioned, ... I will ask again, and this time look at fitting myself.

I was having the same thoughts a while back-Towbars and WRX dont exactly go together cosmetically speaking do they.
I went for the Witter "fixed" one-it only takes the removal of 2 19mm bolts to remove the neck and hitch (takes me 1 min if i take my time;) ) and its harder to see than the Subaru detachable one. It can also be upgraded easily to the detachable swan neck type.
Only cost £190 fitted-but i should imagine you could fit it easily yourself if you wanted to, as all the mounting points are all there ready to bolt to-and theres a socket in the car's loom ready for the electric's to plug into.
I would certanly have this over the Subaru one any day.
(Im not a closet caravaner either-its for my race kart and boat:) )

When you remove the 2 19m bolts, do you have any trouble getting the spacers in and out ??

Made my mind up for me, The Whitter Fixed is the cheapest option, and by the sound of it the best option too.

Hi-yes-no need for cutting the bumper-and yes IMO the Witter is the best/cheapest option-it wouldnt suprise me if Witter makes the bars for Subaru.
