S2000 - 13.749 @ 102.5mph

My new best 1/4er mile time and I'm loving it :D Good to see a hell of a lot of Scoobys there today. SIDC meet I suspect. Beat Cal's bugeye but couldn't quite catch a classic STI. Would love to have taken him on rolling from 40mph :) Best trap speed was 104.7mph which is quicker than any trap I ever managed in my 13.301 @ 104.2mph scooby.

Only mods are a snorkle to source colder air for the airbox and a T1-R single exit full decat exhaust. Best 60ft was 2.056s which followd a healthy burn to put some heat in the tyres. For a 2.0n/a full weight 2-seater I feel this is a very respectable time and gives a strong indication of the cars accelerative ability when rolling.

Oh and Neil - bring your clio over before you next round of £1000s of mods and we'll see who is boss now ;):p We're still not even mod for mod given you have a chip, decat and air feed.

Lovely weather today as well :) Had to wear a helmet though

But his Clio would have started out 65-70bhp down on you.... :p :D

Still a good time mate and for some reason I always thought you had a Dark Blue 2k?!! Much prefer your colour though, looks great in the sun.

Cheers,
Grant

His clio is modded and much lighter. Standard for standard the S2000 is faster and exhaust mods for exhaust mods still faster. His next batch will involve cams, inlet polishing, etc. I can't/won't go that far but it should give the clio 215bhp which at 950kg can't be touched by a 1260kg S2000.

15.5 for the CTR is utter pish col!!! Tell him to grow balls :D

Nice time, and bet your even more chuffed the S2000 came top again in the Top Gear Survey 2005 (out of 159 cars). It has performance, reliablity, looks, handling, customer care....the lot.

Did it  Was that reported on last nights top gear? I missed it playing cards - is there a repeat?

It is the best all round car I've owned I would have to say. Reasonable to run, stunning to look at, feel special to drive, rewards the driver, is plenty fast, quite practical, etc. The only fault is that they didn't do a lighter Type-R version with more power - I'm just working towards me own take on Type-R S2000 :D

LG John 14 November 2005 09:00 AM

Oh and steve - last night I tried to guestimate the required power to make my time when I know my cars weight using your calculator. To return at 13.7 @ 102.5mph I would need around 260bhp  Doubtfull I have anything near that so it shows that gearing can and does make a difference despite the car being so-callled torqueless :)

nisr227 14 November 2005 08:43 PM

....saxoboy...........I thought the S2000 weighed in at 1260kg?.... I know its not exact, but my sites calc/formulas work it out to be 13.97secs at 99.85mph standard.

Now give it say 15bhp to allow for an exhaust and filter, and with 252bhp it moves to 13.68 at 102.22mph, not far off your time, and 15bhp is surely realistic? Got to admit though, its the gearing and aerodynamics that could still show up a better time which we don't obviously allow for, cheers

The most often quoted kerb weight I've seen for it is 1285kg and when mines was standard with fuels and me in it I got 1370kg which with me at 90kg (at that time ;)) would seem about right. Its doubtful the car has much more than the 240bhp it comes with out the factory. What it will have is a thicker torque line in vtec meaning it puts a higher proportion of peak power on the road over a longer rev-range. That and reasonable aero and half decent gearing would go along way to explaining the times.

Saxo Boy - spotted your whip at Crail on Sunday (hard to miss it in that colour), looked and sounded stunning! Thought about getting one myself but never got round to it. Maybe next year.

LG John 16 November 2005 08:20 AM

Cheers :) Were you there in a scooby? If so, which one?

Playsatan 16 November 2005 10:07 PM

Yes I was, one of the black Type R's (versions 5). Almost got as much wheelspin as you though.
