OK, an odd one.

Scooby Fly Fishing Day to appeal to gentlemen amongst you (and Anders)!.

I can book the whole of a fishery for a day, and if I do that it will pretty be guaranteed to be stuffed full of monster trout - my best bag there was 5 fish for forty something lbs, and my biggest last year was over 17lbs.

So if anyone is remotely interested (I have three names already) then please respond and we can organise something.

The whole day will be around £800 if we book the whole place, or £30 per head if we just turn up as a gang.

Venue is Chalk Springs which is outside of Andover - groovy drive down there too http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Any idea date wise? Graham.

Trout 12 February 2001 01:45 PM

Late April/Early May - probably a weekday - hopefully still and sunny so that you can see the fish as the water is crystal clear!

Names so far

Anders
Chuck

R,

sounds tempting, what about gear? (as in fishing, not that type http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif )

Ive never done fly fishing but would love a go. Loads of float & ledger type stuff.

What about keeping fish. e.g. Is it your best two, or an amount in weight?

I've got a friend who is very intersted also, he's a Dever Springs boy and wants to see how the other half live http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Might be tempted but seeing as I'm a carp boy you might find my technique amusing. My mate used to help run Dever Springs so I'll see if I can borrow his gear.

Maybe if this goes well the coarse ( maybe literally) anglers could challenge the Fly Fishers to a return match and the carp lake I bailif .

Rannoch,

Having had a quick look at the Chalk Springs website, don't you mean "outside of Arundel" as opposed to Andover?

Bit of a shame, really, as Andover would suit me just fine, whereas I might have to give Arundel a bit more thought....!

Trout 13 February 2001 12:57 AM

If it's credentials you want guys my fish include...

Brown Trout 28lbs 2oz - Dever Springs - current UK record

Brown Trout 13lbs 7oz - Chalk Springs record (where we are going)

Chalk Springs bag record with 5 fish for over forty pounds

Four fish for 44lbs at Avington

Four fish for 42lbs at Dever Springs

Five fish for 42lbs at Rooksbury Mill (an ounce under the record)

and a weeny 5lbs 6oz Brook Trout - Chalk Springs Record

I used to write for Stillwater Trout Magazine - David Taylor, "Clear water Stalking Expert"

Anyway - I will post when I have the date confirmed - at present I have around 12 people saying they want to come (including the PLATINUM block booking).

The suggestion is that we make a private day booking which will give us an 80 fish limit for the group and enable us to fish catch and return (normally you have to kill and are limited to four or five fish!). Last year I fished a day there on this basis and had over 25 fish, of which at least ten were over 5lbs with several over 10lbs.

Also a fly fishing coach and tackle can be arranged. This will work out at around £60-80 per head - more expensive than normal, but with all the benefits of having the place to ourselves and very liberal bag and fishing rules.

Will update you when necessary.

I am in, along with my mate Dominic who was sponsored by Team Drennan and knows Bob Nudd. Hes sad yes, but a keen fisherman and aged 21. LOL
He will gladly help anybody with questions tips hints etc etc but to be honest fishing is not my game. If there is a pub nearby then I am sorted. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

David, please email Anders as we have a propostion re:cost of the lake for the day.

Regards
Ronnie

Hector 13 February 2001 02:27 AM

I have 7 fisherman lined up, my master Anders fancies himself as an ex Carp fisherman. UK best 37lb out of Darenth and European best 57lb http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif

I will sit on the side of the lake and play catch with Ronnie http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Now I know why he bought the BRD wagon http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I could probably make that. I tend to mainly fish the reservoirs these days so I'm a bit out of touch as far as the small waters are concerned, but would be keen to give Chalk Springs a go.

Maybe a bit (coarse) ! but while were at it .25lb carp Thames marlow . 6lb.06oz chub Thames Reading . 2lb. 06oz Roach Thames Sonning. 250lb net of Bream consisting of 50 fish Wargrave Thames , to mention a few and a 9lb Salmon caught at Sunbury on Thames and returned alive.

AllanB 13 February 2001 11:23 PM

Used to match fish but gave it up as regulars on some venues didn't like getting beaten by a teanager. Spent years on the Lea after barbel and recently turned to carp and baliff Boxers Lake in Enfield. Used to work in the tackle trade for 7 years, at Oakwood Angling.

Carp 31lb 4oz, of the top from Walthamstow
Barbel 10lb,10oz
Dace 1lb 3oz
Chub 6Lb 6oz
Rudd 2Lb 14oz

Best days fishing was at Gold Valley and was reported in Anglers Mail with over 200 carp for over 1600lb ! My arms and back hurt for a week. Mmmm carp....

Do fancy trying the fly fishing lark. Can we rent the gear or does anyone have a surplus we could use on the day ?

Hi lads,

Very interested. I've only done coarse fishing before, but lots of it. I don't have the correct gear, & If possible, I'd like a little tuition. I'll be watching for the date as a weekday will need a bit of forward planning.

Shaun.

Hi Guys,

I only normally do course fishing as well, but I believe there is a very good book available in some shops called "FLY FISHING by J R HARTLEY" it may help you newbies out !!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif
