Map sensor

Hi ,
Can anyone tell me what effects on ecu operation would i get by blanking of the map sensor from seing the pressure , apart from the obvious of no overboost fuel cut protection !!!
It is a phase 1 ,PE converted ecu on a UK MY97 ,
Does it also use the pressure signal to calculate fuelling and timing etc etc??

Thanks

I have been reading into the same thing. I would say not to blank it off as it does control fuel all be it a small amount as most of the fueling in done by the MAF.

I am going to fit a diy fuel cut defender on the map to stop it seeing more than 16psi my fuel cut is around 18psi. I will monitor the AFR with a wideband lambda just to see what is going on

The ECU also uses the map sensor for boost control - ECU has a boost map & boost pressure solenoid duty map which it uses to control the boost pressure via the boost control solenoid. So fitting an FCD or pneumatically disconnecting the map sensor will have implications if the ECU is controlling the boost ;)

Cheers

Hi ,

Thanks for the info guys ,
I am using a Dawes device for boost control at the moment and also have a Knocklink and Lambdalink to keep a check on things !!!
Does the ecu use the boost signal from the map to calculate anything else ??

cheers
