Sti 02 Upgrade
 

hi guys i have a sti02

i am looking into upgrading it ......nothing crazy
i use my sti on a daily basis going to work etc...

its bad enough it burns crazy fuel and it costs a bomb to run
BUT yet again being a subaru owner i would like to give it a bit more of a
grunt that the standard 265 Bhp

what would you guys recomend ?

Remap, exhaust and STi panel filter, probably your best options, cost of approx 1k :D

since i am new to all this and need some directions

i.e part names and where to get from i am located in Kent

and what Bhp would you think this would take it to ?

Nearest place to you which id recommend is Bob Rawle (brdevelopements will find a link for you :))
You can easily get 330bhp out, even 350bhp, but it depends how far you want to go, 330bhp is enough to scare most cars out there ;) 350 is towards the top end of your turbo's power, but you want 350lbs of torque, much more fun ;)
ECUTEK remap for the above, would suggest a full decat exhaust or atleast cat back and try to pick up a prodrive sports cat off ebay for around 200ish quid.

how do we remap the ECU ?
what exhzust you recomend ? do you mean a exhaust with no catalist ?

Bob will remap the ecu with a custom map for your car, the exhaust will be a better free flowing type, if you want to decat (no cat at all) then this will flow better or get one of the sports cats off ebay ;)
Exhausts though... depends what you like, id go for a hayward and scott, not the cheapest but damn good quality :D but if you like it a little noisier, there are several different makes which can do this for you.

i found 3" De-cat centre pipe will that attach to the original cat ? and then i take it i need a 3" back box correct ?

TSL motorsport do a conversion they call the "333" as it give about 333bhp they are near notingham nice drive back to Kent to get the feel of the car. Another good place is G-Force Motorsport in Aylesbury nr Oxford they do a range of kits. Both have good websites where you can see what is on offer. I had my 02 STi worked on at G-Force now kicking out 360 bhp with 3in full system inc hi-flow cat, GEMS standalone ECU (fitted this due to further work in the future that might go outside the box for the ecuteck re-map. Prior to my trip to Aylesbury I had already fitted FMIC and tubular exh headers this resulted in 290 bhp on first run on RR. Have fun, sod the cost and run on shell optimax.

Should add that you will probably need an uprated fuel pump due to yours being an MY02 (type uk?).

yes mine is a 2002 type uk

u said replace the exhaust system dont forget i use the damm thing on a day to day
basis, so the fuel bill is mad as it is so dont want to go crazy

i would be greatfull if you could give me an extensive list of parts (+make) i need to get it upgraded.

or else is it work getting the subaru ppp for 2k ? any idea what they change to give an sti 305bhp ?

For the PPP they change the fuel pump (MY02 cars only), exhaust down pipe, back box and ecu (either a piggyback chip or remap ecu depending on what the ecu is i think).
Exhaust can still be quiet, H&S can make you one but it will cost around 500 quid(ish) plus the remap is going to be 650+vat, panel filter is 50ish quid, not sure on the price of the fuel pump, but a reputable mapper will be able to tell you the cost :)
PPP is worth it if your still under warranty, if your not then go for a remap, it can be remapped to your specification so power doesnt have to be sky high, just usable ;)

Have a look here for the parts to the exhaust, with the cat its going to be more expensive so have a look on ebay (nothing on there just yet as ive looked) but the prodrive sports cats do pop up ;)

If your only after around 320bhp, you can retain most of your standard exhaust including the catalytic converter in the down pipe, that will save you the most money, the remap will still cost you 650+vat and then you need the uprated fuel pump, but going to a free flowing exhaust will give you better scope for modifications later on if you wanted them ;)
