306gti engine in a 106gti???
 

Is this possible? Of course the transmission will need changing too but would the engine mounts need strengthening etc etc or would it slip in???

I'm gauging ideas for a track car i'm buying next year and the thought of a 190bhp 306 engine in a fully stripped out 106 has made me moist;):D:D Of course i'll be putting big brakes and coilovers on too:o

If not i'll be getting a standard 306 gti-6 and going the full weight loss and susp/brakes on that instead:D:D:D

And i dont want this turning into a WRX hammering thread either, save that for SeniorAP's threads;)

No it won't go in because the 2.0 sits at an angle. But a 160hp 1.6 16v and TB's is very spicy..........

They were at tuner GP compeating in a 190hp 205 with a cage and a seat, i think the driver wasn't the best as i followed hime round in my diesel Skoda - lol :) But the conversions they offer look good.

P.S Fast track times are set by good drivers as much as anything else. A reliable standard car makes a better track beast, just ask Gary {Gutman}

Ok another question, which would make a better track car. A 106gti with tb's and sorted susp/brakes or a 306gti-6 with zorst air filter and sorted susp/brakes???

106 is lighter which has advantages from the outset.

the 106 is lighter but would it not feel as planted as a 306 though? And with a longer wider wheel base it would grip better??

106gti is by far and away a better handling car than the heavier 306gti. How i would love one to have to ar5e around in again, they are simply stunning.

I got my 106, back in 97, to 144bhp with just a mongoose decat, supersprint centre and back box. I then sorted the heads and added a BBR interceptor chip, which for some astonishing reason kicked out 170bhp, with 150+ lbft. The car was stupidly quick in that guise, combined with koni suspension and 306gti brakes, it handled and stopped like nothing i have driven since, including my 3 subarus i have had.

I then got stupid and put nitrous on it, bye bye engine..........

When i bought it, it was a demo, on an open day at peugeot, my 306dturbo was in for service, so went for a test drive in the 306gti, then the 106gti. I never gave the keys back for the 106....

Put the 2 side by side, on a track, i would choose the 106 everytime.

306 engine will fit into a 106 but its a load of work and pointless really.

For TB's, there is Jenvey, Lumenition, KMS and Suzuki GSXR ;)

KMS are good, and about £300 cheaper than Jenvey, DIY Bike bodies are an arse to do but much cheaper - i've finished mine for circa £150 all in, though the ECU was £900 which you need for TB's.

Dont entertain carbs, it is 2005 after all.

What kind of minimal weight can you get the 106 down to?? about 750kg's??

Start with a series 1 rallye - then add a 106 GTI engine - you could probably do the whole thing for under £4000 with 2 buckets and modified 1.6 16v engine 190bhp engine you can achieve 250-270 bhp / tonne !

iv got a 215bhp clio 16v on throttle bodies that weighs in under 880kg!

the rallye with 16v lump in is also a v good option! they are very lightweight, but you'll not see 190bhp though without about 5k of engine work!

my mates has 180bhp on TBies and hes spent about £5k on that!

The Rallye is another option! Did they have light weight panels or anything like that or was it just a case of loosing a bit of sound deadening, manual windows etc??

Is the phase 2 rallye the same as the gti engine wise? I dont really wanting to spend stupid money on the engine. Id prefer to put that into the handling;) A nice 150brake would be perfect:D

Series 1 rallye was 1.3 and 100hp and 750kg's the series 2 was 1.6 8v 100 hp and 850+kg's. I would go with a series 1 rallye and do all the handling. Stock 106 gti engines can be fitted for very little money and £2000-£3000 buys you a nice rallye. they weren't much different other than sparse which saved weight. I think the 106 GTI is 70-100 kg's heavier than rallye.............

most are 120bhp, but some models had 130bhp, i think....around the 1999/2000 area then they went back down to 120 for emissions!

Keep the 106Gti engine, but get yourself to LAD motorsport (Morecombe) as they can get it to 170Bhp. Or failing that I think there's a company in Scotland that supercharge it. When I had a 106GTi I thought about both these options.

Try looking in the back of "Performance GTi" for tuners

Sorry, but dont go near LAD, they are useless, and overclaim all their power figures.

I've not been there, but we have countless horror stories on the Pug forums about none existant work, poor performance after upgrades etc.

No personal experience of them though.

Deffo get a 106 gti, I've had one and my dad had one, cracking cars as standard.
Its probably easier to strip out and save weight than an engine transplant on a rallye.
Get some 306 callipers from the scrappy and you will already have a car which will already out handle and brake better than more cars than you think.
Modification wise check out mods for the saxo as they are basically the same car.
106 gti responds well to exhaust and breathing mods.
