Has anyone replaced the leds in the Knocklink, either remote mounted or inside ?

i made my own remote install. i just used normal leds and holders from maplins 12v

Granby 01 November 2005 04:17 PM

Yes i have and found that they were 2.5v LED's, got my LED's from Maplins :)

Didn't replace them as such. Just de-soldered the LEDs from the KnockLink, mounted them in the top of the plastic trim that fits around the dials with LED clips and connected them all back up to the Knocklink with some screened multicore cable. Bit of hot glue applied to stop it all coming apart. KnockLink box hidden behind the dashboard. Job's a good-un :D

Its the standard LEDs they use, off the top off my head it should say something like Vf = 2 Volts in the spec

Basically don't buy anything labelled 'low current' - standard is what you need.

You can buy LEDs that be put across 12v, or 24v etc - it just means it comes with a resistor inline. But in this case you just want the LED only

Anyone got pictures of the LEDs mounted to the right of the cup holder in a new age?

This has to be one of the neatest and easiest (as in piece of piss..!) methods of mounting a KL. No bother removing LEDs, just remove KL case and use as template to drill holes in dash shroud. I did this and just gaffer taped KL gubbins in position once LEDs were in holes.

Takes about 30 mins, and yes they are very visable. lol, you even get a 'heads up' in dash..!;)

You won't get much more descreet (sp?) that this..!

Although the eagal eyed amoungst you will notice in the second pic the LED's have been changed... NO NEED..!

:)

Hold on guys thread seems to be going off topic !
Ive done the remote leds in all kinda places and have always used the originals desoldered from the board BUT the question i asked which is getting varied answers is................................................ ....
What voltage leds are used in the k/link as standard, now without setting it up on the bench and measuring the outputs there seems to be varied opinions....

1 question = Whats the voltage of the leds

Oh and not to be left out of a straying thread heres a pic of one i did 18months or more ago

2.5 volts in mine,They work fine and have done for six or so months

jaytc2003 02 November 2005 03:05 PM

i haven't done any so I cant answer - sorry!
Am looking at remotely mounting theleds though

morpheous 02 November 2005 03:10 PM

Will go for the 2.5's or 3-5v's as 12v is too high in my opinion...Will let you know after ive tested the output at different levels,Cheers guys.

jaytc this info will probably come in handy for you then when you knacker yours stripping the oems ones out of the unit, the slightest bit tooo much heat and they're shagged.

I used bog standard leds in mine. Have been working fine. I think they are rated upto 12v. Works perfect.

Cheers Ralph, that classic one is on my Type R.

Think mine was the first to be done but since I posted that pic way back quite a few others have done it also. I guess they can't solder like me either.
