As anyone who follows motorsport will now know there was an accident at the above where two were killed and another seriously injured. What is the general feeling of members towards the track safety there and should track improvements be made or was this just a freak occurence.

I was there on Sunday and IMHO I thought that the safety measures were second to none. I think that it was just a friek accident and it was extremely unfortunate that the two marshals were standing where they were. It is very, very sad that such incidences occur but as we all know, motorsports are dangerous and there is always a small risk. I think that Goodwood Festival of Speed should continue.

It's not the first death at Goodwood - probably won't be the last either. I'm sure the organisers will learn from this and do what they can to reduce the risks for next year.

So what actually happened?

Thanks

Poor chap driving a four wheel drive Lotus 63 veered off track on the finish straight taking out the overhead finishing posts and also two marshalls one of which sadly died. The other marshall has lost his lower leg, and the driver died instantly.

It was a sad thing to have happened at what has grown into a superb weekend over the last few years. My own opinion is that the event should carry on as before. The specialist motor mags have called for the event to be non-competitive but I think this would take something away from what we all ultimately want to see, which is a car being driven fast. Maybe a few Armco barriers among the bails of hay at certain areas would make things a bit safer but as we all know motorsport always has and always will have an element of danger involved in it.

Chip.
