Sounds cool, depending on Southern meet we'd do this one - looks very family freindly, and I'd be able to get my porker driving brother in law in on it!

On page 4 of June 2000 edition of SIDC True Grip there is an article on SIDC/Porsche Club Summer Meeting at Bentley Wildfoul and Motor Museum in Halland, East Sussex, on Sunday 11th June 2000.

As this date is just a few weeks away I'm wondering if it's still going ahead as I've not seen anything on this section of the BBS about it.

Markus 23 May 2000 01:22 PM

BTW I'm NOT in charge of organising this, just seeing if those in charge had any info on wether this event is going ahead.

I certainly want to go, it will be my first meet as well!

chuckster 23 May 2000 01:24 PM

I heard u were behind a meet at Lakeside car parks recently? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

JAMES BUSHELL 23 May 2000 01:37 PM

Hi all,

Anyone else going to Biggin Hill? If you pre book it'll cost you £25 entry per car, with as many people as you want in it !!

I'll be there!

James

Yex 23 May 2000 01:38 PM

A meet at Lakeside with a loud exhaust test in one of the car parks (number 12 is a good one).....oooh errr what a terrible idea http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Yex - car goes to Lakeside so often I'm thinking of getting it a credit card http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Blow Dog 23 May 2000 01:42 PM

Isnt this Porsche meet just a concours event? Sounds a tad boring to me, kinda like a classy McDonalds meeting.

Markus 23 May 2000 02:14 PM

chuckster:
well, if I turn up and other scoobies decide to follow my wisdom then what can I say http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Blow Dog:
Yup, the True Grip article says it's a concours event, so not exactly stimulating, but I'd get to meet other scooby owners face to face, and who knows, maybe a few porkers will be humbled on the way there and back! (bet the plod will be well out in force though!)

Danny Fisher 23 May 2000 08:45 PM

Cem, and you'd know about the McDonalds meets.....

Now how does that song go, "Who ate all the pies, you fat....."

cberry 23 May 2000 09:32 PM

I attended Bently last year, it was good fun with plenty to do. We just need to get more Scoobies than Porsches there!

Tim W 23 May 2000 11:56 PM

And it was my car in the foreground of the pic too http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif (reddish Blue 4 door on 17"s).. before I was a member of the SIDC...

I'll be up for it again, it was all right, like a pub meet without the bar http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

Markus 25 May 2000 04:08 PM

so any 'offical' word on this meet from the SIDC???

SuzyQ 29 May 2000 06:55 PM

OK for any of you that have not been to Bentley Markus managed to drag me there at the weekend, and I have to say that I was quite impressed with the motor museum, not so sure about the peahens fighting over the peacock though,I was tempted to tell them that he wasn't worth it,but thought better of it when they nearly knocked Markus over!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

We're in the Tunbridge Wells area so if any of you are coming through on your way to Bentley then we could meet up,and go down together. The more the merrier...

Markus 30 May 2000 11:07 AM

Andrew Hamilton (who is the contact given in the True Grip article, asked me to post the following to the BBS.
----- BEGINS ----
The event at Bentley is going ahead. It is a good day out attended by the general public as well as SIDC/Porsche Club members and last year there were over 250 cars there, including 40 Impreza's :-) There is a conours but really it is more like the Sussex regions main get-together of the year. I reckon it is a good place to meet, a bit more interesting than a pub car park! OK there is no bar (most of us are driving anyway) but there is a cafe. There is also a small motor museum and you can send the wife/girlfriend around the Stately home and wild fowl park while us blokes talk cars!
It's a laid back kind of day and the Porsche club people are very friendly, they are into all performance cars not just Porsche. They enjoyed having us so much last year that they invited us again this year, although they were surprised to see so many scoobies there last year!
Would be nice if we could top that this year. There will be space set aside for SIDC parking.
Should be a good day, hope to see you there.

Stupot 30 May 2000 11:38 AM

Im going with my friend. He is taking his poofy 911 down there.... Im looking forward to the drive hehe. Should I give him a head start?? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

SuzyQ 30 May 2000 07:12 PM

Excuse me,but I think that it will be I who sends Markus around the wildfoul bit with the kids while I look at the cars etc.... ~Are any other girlies going, who like to look at cars?....No I mean real girls, not you girlie boys! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Should be a laugh if the weather is better! We can live in hope!
SuzyQ http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

NeilR 31 May 2000 08:36 PM

Wildfowl..

Took the wife and kids last year (take a look at the picture in the latest truegrip. See the little boy with the yellow top. thats my lad)

anyway, personally, i had a great day last year, the Porche members taught me a thing about what a real picnic is http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif and perhaps most importantly, the cafe sells the most enormous slices of CAKE ive ever seen.

Cool http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/cool.gif

NeilR

SuzyQ 01 June 2000 05:54 PM

OK I stand corrected sorry NeilR I will remember that its wild fowl next time,it's a little hard to type when one is sitting on the floor and ones weimaraner puppy is trying to eat ones hiar and head and ears etc...Do you get the picture? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

NeilR 02 June 2000 09:14 AM

Markus 05 June 2000 12:47 AM

Just had a thought.

Can someone confirm wether the cars have to be in 'concours' condidtion to get into the SIDC area? mine won't be so does this preclude me/my car from the SIDC area???

chuckster 05 June 2000 09:42 AM

Just keeping this one fresh. As long as weather isn't cr*p we'll be coming down from Essex. Kids just love worrying wildfowl. Hope my car isn't the dirtiest one there again http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif .
Chuck

ernie 06 June 2000 12:19 AM

Anyone travelling down from Essex?

Markus 06 June 2000 12:46 AM

To answer my own question.
Cars do not have to be concours condition to go into the SIDC area.

Look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

ernie 06 June 2000 12:53 AM

What is "concours"?

[This message has been edited by ernie (edited 06-06-2000).]

Markus 06 June 2000 02:12 PM

Concours is basically a posh way of saying 'show condition' thus the concours cars will be very, very clean and shiny, don't even think of breathing on the cars!!!

Neil F 06 June 2000 07:45 PM

To clarify concours; it actually means "as the car left the factory".
A car in a concours competition can be penalised for such things as being too highly polished, the wrong tyre make/spec, incorrect stickers in and around doorplates, bulkheads etc and the wrong brand of points in the distributor if the judge is really picky!
This is the rules as applied to classic car events I've seen. The same should apply to Porsches, classic or otherwise.
Modified cars in superb order have to enter an event called "condition" which is often frowned upon by the purists.

Neil.

(who will be going to Bently Park)

Ray T 07 June 2000 08:41 AM

hi all,

what time does this kick off?

any ideas.

ray t

Markus 07 June 2000 09:23 AM

Ray:
Bentley opens at 10, or 10:30 am (can't remember which) so I guess that's when it will kick off.

I'm hoping to get ther for opening or at the latest 11 am.

See you all on Sunday.
