Rattle :(

OK, time to consult the oracle known as Scoobynet.

Drivers side rear door....THE MOST ANNOYING RATTLE KNOW TO MAN.

Occurs only when 'letting off' the right pedal, down shifting or when road is uneven.
I have removed the door card, 'blue tacked' the edge and the clips.
I have obviously checked for loose bits
I have padded out all door lock rods with foam rubber (0.49p sponge)
The window runners are secure, as are both door lock/handles.
I have even padded the door card out with sponge.
I have had SWMBO in the back trying to locate the rattle, I have had a fellow SNetter also try to find it, we've all failed. It's getting to the point where I am gonna rip the bleedin door off.

It's only on the drivers side.

Anyone else experienced this or think I may have missed something?

Have you tried adjusting the door lock catch ?

Internal or external ?

Any chance you could be a ittle more detailed?

The internal catch is afixed solidly to the internal door skin and the rods are not loose.

As for the external handle both nuts are up tight and the rods are as well (door open or closed)

Its a classic btw

Suspension top bolts ?
Worth a look -
Take out your rear seats and tighten the 12mm bolts on top of the suspension turret (3 off) and the one 19mm nut under the rubber cover.

ST, one place i have not looked I'll admit, but it is definately coming from the rear door.
I will have a squizz at the turret all the same - thanks.

Daft one this but a mate did have it -

Is it a loud rattle ?
If not try the heated rear screen connector.

Nope it's a horrible 'tinny' high pitched vibration.........it sounds just like the door lock rods, but they are all encased in foam rubber.

LMFAO

My speedo sits next to me and it kinda screams rather than whines, also the noise from SWMBO is made when I accelerate rather than decelerate :)

SCOOBY TOWERS 01 November 2005 08:33 AM

Check down the drivers side well (in the boot) - ie opposite well to where the jacks stored.

My car was an ex doctors and after hearing noises I pulled the carpet back and shoved my hand down - imagine my surprise when I pulled out ampules of drugs that he'd lost !
I rubbed my hands and was about to flog em down the pub, when the wife (Nurse) said "there just for sickness".
Drat - there went my modding fund :D

SCOOBY TOWERS 01 November 2005 10:45 AM

Have you had anyone else in the car ?
I thought a squeak was coming from the front (dash) area of mine until I went on a club "run out" with a mate.

He found it - Seat belt retaining bolt !
Quick spary of WD40 - no squeak !

7 F'in months to find that one !

Yup, sitting in back and driving, it's deffo coming from the rear door.
Think I will remove it completely and see if that cures it :D

It's getting to the point where I don't want to drive the car........it's that annoying !!!!

IanK Spec C 01 November 2005 11:05 AM

Swen6 01 November 2005 11:13 PM

Rob i'll have a look at mine to see if i can see anything i can suggest.

Right had a quick look and the only thing i can suggest is weld the doors up and bond your rear quarters in, that should sort it. http://smilies.sofrayt.com/1/c0/rotlaugh.gif

baz69birds 13 November 2005 03:32 PM

are you sure its the DOOR???

in the boot maybe?
loose specker bolt/nut? spare wheel BOLT!! anything else in the boot.
something fallen under the rear seat??

i had a rattle once, i was on a long drive & it sounded like it was coming from the front of the car BUT inside, i checked glove box, keys, ash tray, visors, door pockets, latched. everything, then about an HOUR+ later i realised it was my loose change in the slots by the hand brake.. :(
