P1 or Import

Hello people, I am new to this site, and would like some advise. I am looking to buy an impreza but do not know what to go for. I know it has to be a 2 door coupe, but should I go for a P1 or for a jap import? I am going view one on saturday, its a 2001 P1, but I heard something about the big end bearings. Is this true, should I be concerned? Tanks for your help.

Thanks welshman, but I am looking to part exchange my clio 172 for a p1, and i found one from an approved subaru dealer which I will be viewing on saturday. If everything goes well, I will be a very happy man indeed.

Fit a knocklink, run only on optimax or similar, remap if possible and take out the extended warranty ;)

By midnight tonight you will probably have had a load of twats post a load of old bull about this and it will be a slanging match.

anyone that says P1's are the best thing since sliced bread are wrong, and the same goes for type R's

Ignore all that, and hopefully a chap called Iwan will be along. He has owned both and tells it like it is, the good and bad of both models.

Hello Mark :)

Hmmmm, I've been asked this a lot. Yes I've owned both, and currently I have a Type R.

I would ask myself what I'd mostly be using the car for, and what I'm prepared to live with regarding the ownership experience.

If you do a lot of miles regularly - buy a P1.

If you don't have an independant specialist nearby and need to use the Subaru dealer network for servicing - buy a P1.

If you want Subaru warranty - buy a P1.

If you want something that is slightly sillier, has lower gearing, has slightly harder edged handling, has a more track orientated power distribution, handles slightly better (but not noticably), has no warranty, and you don't do big mileage every day - then go for a Type R.

Come over to http://www.p1woc.co.uk for more info, we're very friendly and unlike here we done have 15 page threads arguing whether a P1 is better than a Type R. :)
