Pug 205 GTI Speedline Wheels
Does anybody know if the genuine Pug Speedlines are lighter than the French version without the Speedline stamp on them? (they look identical).
If so, I would like to know by how much because I have a set of Speedlines that need a re furb and a very good set of the French ones that do not, just trying to judge if it is worth the expense. Cheers Aggs |
They probably are speedlines, dunno about the weight though, some companies like peugeot and even subaru have them specially made.
Id personally have the other ones refurbed though, 200 quid will give you a brand new set after the refurb. Tony |

Tony I think a lot of manufacturers use them. |
Thanks, will go for the re-furb option.
Aggs Think I have sold the others to a mate so will go towards cost. :) |
speedlines are only 1 kg lighter than SMRs, makes nowt difference on a road car
|
Theres 3 types, speedline, smr and one other - can't remember OTOH, but a search on http://forum.205gtidrivers.com would reveal....... :)
|
i've got loads of these wheels as i rally a 205 gti, can't feel any difference in the weights of the speedlines to the smr's myself
|
Thanks for the link.
Seems the Speedline is 1kg lighter. I seem to remember from my cycling days every bit if rotating mass on a wheel save assists performance. I probably would not notice the difference in a car though too many other variables. But as an enthusiast I need some excuse to spend a bit more money on the old girl and need to justify it!!!! |
unsprung weight is indeed important, but for a road car 1kg per corner will make sod all difference. My dedicated track 205 has lighter wheels, it did add up to about 12kgs in total which a reasonable saving, especially as the car only weighed 779 kgs

I asked my mate this, as he's a 205 driver, and he said he had two sets - Speedlines and something else, and having weighed them they are identical
