Slow Xbox live via new wirless kit (Another one)
I've changed my setup in the house to use a Dlink G604T as my modem/router. It lives downstairs with my chipped xbox plugged straight in the back. My pc and xbox live machine are upstairs with about 20' between them.
the PC get's an Excellent signal with no problems surfing and full speed to it when I check a speed test (adslguide.org) Xbox live on the other hand is so slow. I can connect see games but they all have the single speed/strength indicator. When it's loading scoreboards in Forza it takes around 10-15 seconds. the xbox is using a Belkin ethernet bridge 54G type My thoughts are it's signal strength  or something in the router. I've got the firewall off at the moment so I don't think it's a port issue. help Craig. |
What are the ping times like? Is your upload speed OK?
|
maybe thats why wez_sti is having xbox problems with that same router....
|
ping from pc to everything is good. sub 10ms
upload as part of the adslguide test is 30kper sec so it's full speed for my connection. I've just opened ports 3074 UDP/TCP and 88 UDP on the back of the info from dlink. but no change. So wes_sti is using the same router ? |
yeah see the aol-xbox thread
|
would a signal strength of 70-80% cause the slowdown ? I used my psp to test the signal strength :D
|
I have a 604T and have no problems. Have you opened the Xbox live ports on the router ?
|
When you say you've recently changed your setup, what was your previous setup? Same ISP? No problems before setup change?
|
scooby-doo
can you run me through what ports you have open on the router ? I think I have them but it's still running slow. I was on the same isp before with no problems. |
UDP port 88 and 3074 and TCP 3074. Stupid thing is you have to do it by IP address so if you go into LAN clients and when the XBOX is on untick its IP address from Dynamic. By doing this it will reserve that IPaddress for the XBOX when you turn it on. Thinking about it this may not be the answer as I found you just lost voice and could'nt connect to all games when the ports were not opened. Can you plug the bridge into a network port on a pc to test the speed ?
|
I plugged the Xbox direct into the router and it was just as slow :( opened the ports and it's just as slow  do I need a seperate line for each port entry ? eg 1 for udp then another for TCP and does it need a restart before the port opening is active ?

Got another 604 coming tonight to test to see if my one if a bit iffy.
My unit won't let me click to static an ip  so if it's not doing that is it opening ports  after reading your post scooby I've only tested with Forza |
You need to save changes and reboot. When the xbox is on you should see in the lan clients an ip assigned to it. There is a box where you can click to make it static so the xbox will always be assigned that address. Once done go into port forwarding select the ip address and create a new rule. You just add multiple entries to the rule. I will load pgr2 now and set up a room for friends join me and I will tell you if your lagging.

My unit won't let me set any of the ip's to static. My mates 604 that we tried allowed us to but not my one. I can see the xbox ip in lan clients and set up all the rules for that ip no problem.
it just doesn't get any faster ? Lastnight we used the Belkin 54G bridge on my pc and got full dl speed without any problems. Network strength at my xbox is 80-90& (PSP is a great network sniffer) put all the rules in for the ip of the xbox (seen in lan clients and the xbox setting) but still no change. Live is down now for 24 hours so no testing for a while. I'm returning the 604 and going with the advice of another friend in local shop. but I will get this fixed before my 360 arrives :( |
I have run my neighbours PC on 50 % and they have full speed. Sounds a bit buggered only other thing is to check you have the latest firmware on the router. Just in case DO NOT use wireless to update the firmware. Roll on Dec 2nd.
