save as

Say, I have the following url on a bbs I can right click and save as. How can I do this without using a browser, if I paste the link into the address bar it will try and connect, not download??

The only way to force the download by entering the url in the address bar is to disassociate the file type .wmv with all applications. Complete PITA, far easier to just right click and "save as" :)

we should have a forum where we can all just paste the links we need to 'save as' :D

I just open notepade, write out the code for a link and change the file extention to .htm then open it in IE and save as:

- open notepad.
- type <a href="http://yourlinkhere/">click on me</a>
- save file.
- rename file as myfile.htm
- double click on myfile.htm
- right click on "click on me" and choose "save target as"

Job done :)

You need to change a setting somewhere - when I click on that link it opens the browser window but then asks if I want to save it or open it.

You can paste the link into a download manager if you have one.

If you do not have one, I suggest that you get one :) Free Download Manager is good, and as its name suggests, its free :D

The benefits of a download manager are:
1) it can resume a broken connection
2) It can make several connections to the same source, allowing a faster transfer
3) You can queue many downloads and then just leave it to it.
