M.O.T Test
 

Hi all,

Just got the car booked in for a M.O.T test (I have a 96 sti V3 import) I was asking the guy at the garage how they would do the brake test i.e on rollers or out on the road. He then asked me has it got Limited Slip Diff???

So my question is would my model have a Limited Slip Diff if so what does it do???

It has to be carried out on the road. Just tell the guy to treat it the same as any other 4wd.

Don't let them put it on the rollers.

As above, when I told the Guys who tested my RA that it had a LSD they didn't do the test just incase and happily wrote out a certificate saying " You need to be a complete lunatic to drive one of these with defective brakes, I'll take your word that they are in good nick" !!!. Recently had a new test and the garage had plates in the floor, the tester just drove it on and pressed the brakes, then reversed it off and back on and pulled the handbrake. Totally painless, Don't let them do it on rollers, If they insist take it elsewhere or ask for the boss to stand infront of the car when it is being tested !!!!!!!!!

what happens if they test a scooby on rollers??

Some say it will damage the center diff.
Some say it wont do anything because scoobs have a viscous center diff and not mechanical, and the slow speed and short duration of the test will not heat up the diff or cause any damage.

Did mine on the rollers just to test out how good the brakes were - not part of an MOT test - and it did no damage - but then I'm clearly mad

Last year had my Forester automatic tested on brake rollers before I realised there was a problem with this.

What would be the symptoms of a damaged viscous coupling?

Today I jacked the rear of the car and with a mate turned both rear wheels at the same time and in the same direction, and couldn't feel any resistance.

Either there is no problem or the viscous coupling is buggered!!
