Thanks ... what about LG L1715S ... Argos doing it for £160 ...???

Pete

Nick 14 October 2005 10:25 PM

Why do people ask for the best - when they really mean, the cheapest! :Whatever_

pslewis 14 October 2005 10:27 PM

OK, value for money then!! :D

I had an LG 1710B for 2 years, no problems, very good build quality too for the money. Now have a Samsung which I also cant fault so far. Misco are good for TFT's, see www.misco.co.uk

pslewis 14 October 2005 11:34 PM

Cheers Beefy .... Argos tomorrow then I guess?? :D

Pete

Beefy 14 October 2005 11:44 PM

Yup £160 is a good price, its not got the fastest response time but if its only for general use then that wont be an issue.

pslewis 14 October 2005 11:45 PM

16mS ...... should I go for the ACER at 12mS instead??

I just think LG are good at flat panels??

Pete

Beefy 14 October 2005 11:49 PM

In my experience, LG make excellent flat panels, you wont notice much difference between 16 and 12 ms tbh. I checked and my old LG was 16 ms and that was fine for watching DVD's and pretty much everything else. There were a few issues with ghosting when playing games but nothing too serious.

I've found that with certain flat panels the viewing angle can be quite poor, but my LG was very good. This may not be an issue but its worth bearing in mind.

Cheers mate - you've been helpful in making my mind up - thanks!! :D

Another vote for LG - 1710B here :)

ScooBStu 15 October 2005 09:25 AM

We have a Acer AL1714 17" monitor - Only paid £130 brand new from Comet or currys - I always get them mixed up!!! They had a big pile of them but that was a few months ago.

PG 15 October 2005 09:31 AM

Pete is buying LG ?? was there not a rant thread about their customer service by you a while back Pete?

PG 15 October 2005 09:39 AM

thought you would have had more morals than that
I'm dissapointed in you ! ;) :D

pslewis 15 October 2005 10:59 AM

I have dealt with that issue with the UK Pesident of LGE ......... he is going to sort out their horrendous Customer Services Department :D :D

Just try ringing LG Customer Services at the moment .............. you will be horrified by what you hear!!

I am always willing to give second chances - I would NOT spend a lot of money on a LG product until I know they have got themselves sorted out - and I would advise no-one else to either!! ...... but a 17" LCD Screen for £160?? I'll risk it :D

You can get 19" screens for not a lot more & that gives you a whole load more real estate to play with. Try places like dabs.com or any of the other online computer retailers

161 sq inches compared to 137 sq inches about 18% more? But it makes all the difference :)

Don't forget that a 17" TFT is equiv to a 18" CRT, so a 19" TFT is a bit bigger still. Silly I know but there is a technical reason for it...

pslewis 15 October 2005 09:46 PM

Well, update .... went and got the LG 17"

£160 in ARGOS (reduced from £210)

Seems good .... its brighter than my CRT

Thanks for the help!!

Pete
