Manpower
 

Ive just visted Manpower in town and given them my details in the hope that they can find me a job. I went to the Job Centre first which was a waste of time!

They going to forward me for an office junior job at a major building firm that it local to me. They never said which. They also said once they have my cv (ive just e mailed them it) they will keep sending out my details until i get something.

My mate used them years ago and got a job at Norwich Union temping, hes now being there 7 years and is a consultant on around 16k.

Has anyone else had any experience with them?

:( if i remember right this is the agency one of my m8s went through working in a call centre.

He was earning way less than the other people were because they took about 15% of his wages.

Manpower - and most of the other High Street agencies are pretty much all alike.


Depends on what level of job you're after, but it sounds like you're after an entry level role - in which case your best bet it to register with several agencies. Reson being employers will often have specific agrements with certain agencies so in order to cast your net as wide as possible you need to be registered with more agencies.

Alternatively register online - Monster, Total Jobs, Reed etc all have loads of jobs on them and the 'apply on line' procedures are really easy (though a bit time consuming!)

To cut out the agency altogether get onto websites like Searchy.co.Uk or Yell.com and track down employers in your area that you'd like to work for and apply direct. For lower level positions they quite often consider CVs sent on spec as it avoids agency fees (around 15-17% of starting salary!)

SDW - sounds like your mate ended up working via an umbrella company - there are a nightmare as they manage to operate outside the Employment Agencies Act and thus generally fleece their 'workers' :(

In what field would this be as 16k is not a lot to be honest.

Hes a consultant at Norwich Union, He started on about 6-7k. He started off as a rep, the level he is at now is the equivilant of a team leader. He processes funds transfers etc mainly dealing with isa's. I think any problems with accounts he deals with too.

Mark: aren't you a time served welder?

Try a few places in Sheffield, Scutnhorpe etc where the steel industry is.

16K isn't alot, my hubby is in the army and he only gets just under 17K a year, bit crap really

Better than Sainsbury's - shop assistants are on about 12k and junior managers not a lot more (14-15k).

I want out of this work, i dont enjoy it. Wish id never done it.

Ah.

Go get y'self an HGV license, plenty of work there;) and at quite a bit more than 16k
