Only saying what I saw - the back looked like it had been chopped off!!!

Just didn't flow like a DB9..........

All IMHO - I'll be waiting for that lottery win and going for a DB9 :D

PMSL @ Brendan. :lol1:

I can't see any 3 series compact but there are similarities to the 350Z. Most obviously the rear arches from front 3/4.

skoda_kid 30 September 2005 10:00 AM

Can't see any 3 Series at all, possibly a slight hint of 350Z, however, not enough to put me off wanting one :)

Big question is though, is this car going to make the AM brand more 'common', as the Boxster has done with Porsche. Dont get me wrong, a Porsche coming down the street still makes me stop and look, but the Aston is currently in a different league.

Lets hope it stays that way.

Matt

davegtt 30 September 2005 10:09 AM

looks more like a Mazda 323 than a square boxy beemer

http://www.spoilersmax.co.uk/Spoiler...23_spoiler.jpg

it still looks damn sexy though but the DB9 is much nicer

Bald Speed Racing 30 September 2005 10:46 AM

I live / work close to the Aston Martin factory and see a few darting around either fully painted or covered up. I think they are nice looking cars.

GaryK 30 September 2005 10:53 AM

Awesome looking, sorry Dan I just dont see even the tiniest resemblence between one and some dodgy looking 3 series compact.

LMAO!!!! you b1tches can be SOOOOO cruel  :D

Sorry guys, I'm gonna stick to my guns on this one :p :) Don't expect people to agree, but this is what I saw - a lovely looking Aston front, but the rear quarter looks too abrupt.

Don't get me wrong, when I saw the footage, press pics etc, I LOVED it. But seeing a dirty one yesterday in the flesh, I was totally underwhelmed. I certainly wouldn't say "no thanks", but I was really disappointed TBH.

I do agree with the "common" comment - can't help but think that peeps buying the V8 will be thinking "I really want a DB9, but can't afford it"........ bit like the Boxster issue.

But this is MUCH nicer -

:brickwall I hate the ridiculous Boxster / 911 theory. Whilst it may well be right in a lot of cases, the Boxster is such a great car in it's own right. To claim that they only sell to people desperate to own a Porsche but can't stretch to the 911 is horsesh1t. It's constantly labelled the best car in it's class and if someone has a set budget, and has test driven everything available to them, being labelled a piker is just leaping on a bandwagon.

Where do you really draw the line with this sort of thing?
He bought a Porsche because he couldn't afford a Lambo/Ferrari/Airwolf ;):D

The DB9 and Vantage are very different cars in a lot more than just price.

Aston Martin are only expecting to produce in the region of 3000 Vantages per year. When you compare this with the 30,000 or so 911s Porsche manufacture, it aint gonna be that common.

ScoobyDoo555 30 September 2005 09:35 PM

yeh you're dead right, the Boxster is a great car. But it is (unfairly, I might add) never going to be a 911/996/997. These are the breaks.

As so, the Aston will always be compared to it's bigger brother, the DB9.

Still don't like it :p

To anyone that thinks the Boxster "cheapens" Porsche's, I have 3 words: Nine Two Four. As for thinking an AM V8 looks even remotely like a 3 Compact, I don't think it's glasses you need, more like the corneas from a cadaver.

Scoob99 01 October 2005 09:32 AM

I love the DB9 most sexiest car in the world IMHO, But the Bentley Continental comes a close second as for thr Porsche 911 don't knock until you have driven it, I was lucky enough to take one around Millbrook test track at 190 MPH and as for BMW's I would'nt give one house room.
Cheers
Colin

I can think of three even better words;) Nine ONE Four:D

I'm with davegtt on this issue, there is definitely Mazda 323 in there:) Not a new thing though, the early nineties 323 borrowed the taillights from the DB7

If a Boxter is a poor man's 911, why is an F430 not a poor mans Maranello? Or a Gallardo a poor man's Murcielago?

Hanley 01 October 2005 10:09 AM

or a WRX a poor mans STI

:D :D :D

Because if you own a supercar you are not a poor man ;)

So why is a boxter not a supercar? Apart from the price, the user-friendliness and the reliability, it meets the criteria;)

Obviously the fact that a lot of image concious tw@ts drive them doesn't count, because where I live you see a lot of them in traditional' supercars too;)

CrisPDuk 01 October 2005 10:44 AM

PS, you can't say that it's because it's slow either, because even a 2.7 will leave a 308 for dead;)

Dr Hu 01 October 2005 11:44 AM

I really think you'll find this is the other way round;)

No arguments on the DB9 being one seriously sexy car!

No sure about the compact v AM argument though:freak3:

Brendan Hughes 01 October 2005 01:57 PM

LOL at all those who think Aston copied a car from the 90s, or even the 80s!

Does this mean anything to you?

ScoobyDoo555 01 October 2005 02:02 PM

i'm referring to general shape and the abrupt drop off at the boot - I'm certainly not comparing it to a BMW (I can't stand most of them, but I'm warming to the new 6 series)

This thread is starting to get funny now :D
