Mac Mini + HD ready TV?

Chaps anyone tried this via the DSUB connector on the new HD TFTs?

Most interested in -

- quality of DVD playback
- general desktop use via HD TFT

Good point, so just the normal 3.5mm jack then.. must look for a convertor from 3.5mm to phono.

So you're essentially looking to use the Mac Mini as a DVD player? As said by others, audio will be an issue as you won't be able to get DD/DTS out of the thing as it'll only have stereo output, and certainly no digital output by default.
There are devices you can get that plug in via USB and handle DD and i think DTS output, have a peek here

As for iPod speaker things. have a peek here and scroll down to the Speakers|Mics section. I've heard some good things about the BOSE Sounddock, but have never used it myself (got the iPod hooked up to my AV system at home)

Thanks for all the info chaps.

Basically my end goal is stream video to the mac mini from another system, plus have the ability to play DVDs locally as well. Not too bother about surround sound etc, stereo is fine for me (our bloody cats would chew all the speaker cables anyway! ;) )

Also looking at transferring all my CD albums to an iPod and using it as a 'small' relocatible (sp!) hi-fi - again as long as it sounds ok (bit of depth to the sound) I won't mind too much.

Will probably look at getting:

32" HD ready LCD TV
Mac-mini + LaCie external HD for mac-mini + necessary cables
1x iPod Photo 60Gb
2x iPod speaker + dock units

But not all in one go.. just doing some research to find out what the best opinions are..

Cheers, Alex

Ah, M-Audio! Just done a search and found this little box. I'd seen this before but could not remember who made it (oh the joy of not bookmarking a site!). This is the little box I was thinking of getting when I got the iBook, as it would allow me to use the iBook as a Multiregion DVD player (with suitable firmware hack of course ;)) and have DD and DTS sound :) I opted for a dvd player that could be hacked to multiregion, hmm, think it was the same price as the Transit, maybe I should have gone with that instead.
