Hi everyone...

I'm after a bit of advise about my 95 WRX - im finding stuff out about it all the time, and everyone on here seems really helpful with info, and planned upgrades/modifications, so i thought id better find out some more....

When i got my scoob 3 months ago, the guy i bought it off pointed out that the flywheel needs to be "skimmed". He replaced the clutch just before he sold it, but didnt skim the flywheel as he was intending on selling it quickly to fund his STi5. This was about 5000miles ago.

It doesnt bother me too much, i've got used to driving it now, and apart from a slight judderyness when pulling away and changing down, it doesnt really bother me.

However i've been told that if they havnt been skimmed, they dont really do much for the lifespan of the clutch and cause them to wear out quicker.

Is this true? and how much life will i have left in my clutch?? bearing in mind i dont give it too much abuse - i've only done a couple of 'launches' in it, and its only 5000 miles old!

secondly, how much will it cost to get it skimmed (im sure this is the correct term?) and who would be able to do this for me?

A skim by a competant automotive machine shop will cost a max of £50. The main cost is in getting the flywheel off. Remove box and refit.
If you are getting little judder and it does not bother you then forget it. Do not ride the clutch and it will last quite satisfactorily.

I have an Exeddy lightweight flywheel. 5.7 kg Almost new. Offers over £150. These are 440$ from the US plus delivery plus customs.
Also O/E lightened flywheel. £100 exchange.
