No MOT
OK, got a producer for the first time in what must be 20 years and my MOT ran out end August,my cock up, any idea what ill get done for?
I dont think it carries a points penalty.(?) |
Get the car MOT's ASAP, produce new certificate instead, they may not notice.
If they do, and they decide to prosecute you'll get a small fine. |
Surely no problem if you get it done ASAP and take a fresh one in with you.
|
having no MOT is not endorsable but if teh copper is an a**e he could argue that your insurance was not valid because your car was not roadworthy.
I'd tell the copper, get it mot'd asap and hopefully he wont be a t**t and do you for no insurance |
I didnt tell him at the scene I didnt have an MOT as I didnt know then.
They'll know when I hand my docs in.. I do know no MOT does NOT make your insurance invalid, the insurers can make a reduced payment in the event of a claim but your insurance is valid PS It was an unmarked blue metallic 52 plate Mondeo estate(!) car that pulled me over in Northampton Thank god I wasnt speeding Cheers B |
Been there before. All you have to do is get the car MOT'd asap and produce both certs. If you go down the route of trying to decieve them by producing the new one and not the old one you'll get caught out and they will take action.
They only said that I should really keep an eye on dates of importance, they could take action but they wont because I had sorted it as soon as I noticed. And TBH I thinks its only 30 quid fine and they cant link it to having no insurance. |
Update
Got stung for £35 court costs and a £43 fine |
Cant believe how cheap that is, almost encourages people to not bother paying out for repairs and MOT certificates etc etc....
|
many people don't. just glad i haven't been hit by one yet!
|
Why were you stoppped in the first instance? Was there a penalty associated with any transgression?

Yes, the fine wasnt too bad but maybe the fact the MOT had expired only 11 days before i was stopped and i had the car MOT'd the day after the offence made a difference. I enclosed copies of both MOT's to the court and made a grovelling statement. First time ive ever forgot and the first time ive been stopped since 1988..sods law n all that... |
Doh, sorry my fault, I started reading the thread and thought you meant the MOT expired 7 months ago, didnt realise it was a thread from the past, then I read todays post and didnt do the math ;) That is probably why you got off fairly lightly then :)
