Passed a police car at 152 MPH today - allegedly

I have recently fitted up a SECS monitor to my MY00 Turbo 2000. Its a nice bit of kit, but, as I was overtaking some stuff on the motorway (including a marked traffic car) I looked at the road speed on the unit which showed 152MPH. 0.2 bar of boost and 3100 RPM - how good is that!!!

I have checked, checked and reset the unit - but the Road speed on the unit is hugely out of sync with the Scooby speedo. It was fine on Friday???

I have no real use for the SECS speedo, but am a little bit concerned because as I understand it, the data displayed is a live feed from the ECU. Why would my car think it is travelling at twice the speed it actually is??? and is this something that should concern me - in respect of what the ECU might do with this inaccurate parameter. ECU is standard AE802.

BTW have checked the gauge settings deffo MPH not KPH.

Only engine mods are Full Magnex Decat and K&N Induction kit.

Can live with a fooked software algorithm in the Secs unit - but would like to avoid having replace the ECU or the engine!!!!

Are you absolutely sure it's the correct one for the car? I was sold a unit by a local Subaru "specialist" (who at the time shared the premisis with a new age Mini specialist) and after noting some very strange readings eg 45deg advance at idle! took the unit back, they sent it to PSI who confirmed that the twonks had sold me a Mini unit! Make a note of some other readings and post them here to see if they are ok?

If you look at the setup screen, you may have selected "mph+" instead of "mph" which gives a wildly innaccurate reading.

:)

Or just a reading in kph?

152 kph is 94.45 MPH. too fast to be overtaking a marked police car. here

Fiestaboy,

I do believe you are right. I did go through the settings yesterday morning and there was MPH+C and KPH+C - I did change those to see what the effect was.

I suspect I have forgotten to change them back.

There is a lot of civil unrest here at the min which involves car-jackings to create buring road blocks so I don't fancy going out to check - but I will do it tomorrow on the way to work.

I have a notion you are right.....

Thats nothing, my Origin B2 was reading 600mph+ through a busy high street recently. Not sure what was going on!

The sonic boom could be heard for miles though;)

My secs unit seems to throw a wobbly on mph. On a recent track day it said my peak speed was 142mph. But I know my car cannot get to those speeds on the straights!
