can you boot to a usb HD?

Got my main c: & an e: usb HD. im installing a ghost image which i think has no option but to automatically install to c: How can i make the usb bootable and as a c: while the main c: still present....if you understand...

In your BIOS, change boot device to USB-0 (or -1,-2, etc)

Don't think u can. The PC C:\ drive will always be C:\ unless you remove it :)
You should be able to restore the image to the USB drive without much trouble though. Once youve done that, then u can set XP/Win2k to boot from that USB drive. The USB drive will still be on E:\

You may need to set the USB drive in the bios to be the 1st bootup device as well.

yeah theres a usb boot option. Ive set that first & removed the c: as i wasnt 100% certain the ghost cd would auto install onto my c: which i didnt want. without the c: it boots from usb then auto runs the ghost cd then installs into the drive it sees (usb)
so all looks good. i will do a test later with the c: in while i set ghost installing to see whether it will bugger the c: windows drive.
The idea of this is that we dont want to be pulling out/ swapping HDs as these laptops are cr@p for it....

It will bugger it. The 1st channel IDE or SATA drive will always be C:\

well the user tried to install the image but it took hours so that was abit crap. Unfortunately when they put their HD back in bios didnt register HD, some sort of power prob.
Great just what i didnt want to happen & this is the reason why we dont want to keep swapping the HDs out - these D600s are just so crap!
