Visiting prostitutes does not neccesarily mean you are sad and desperate. I know lads that have no trouble whatsoever with the opposite sex, yet they visit knocking shops just for the crack...if you'll pardon the pun, its a recreational thing.

Two very different things in my opinion. Amsterdam's red light district is heavily regulated and is world famous because it is successful and there is a big demand for what it is supplying. And its also a tourist attraction as such, ie blokes will go there for a lads weekend for a laugh where they can get legally stoned, drink good beer and not have to try and pull and just window shop. I would assume many of these same blokes wouldn't ever go to some old ho on a street corner just looking for a shag.

Someone going looking for an old slapper on a street corner purely for sex is a million miles away from that.
