Stone Chips ,what to do?
My Scoob seems to have loads of stone chips all around the front, sides and it seems to just be getting worse every time I look at her. It seems to me that the paint on these seems to be quite fragile ie very easy to scratch and chip.
I was thinking about using these guys: http://www.chipsaway.co.uk/repair/index.asp Has any one had any dealings with them, they were at the Powerstaion open day and seemed to offer a good service for a resonable price, would like to know a verdict before getting on the blower to them. Thanks John. |
respray then armourfend, or just live with them.

Whats armorfend mate?

Best waiting till the damage is really bad, then get the whole bonnet re-sprayed with a good coating of colour and clearcoat.

Do nowt!, my 05 wagon has loads allready, some right down to the metal. I have new ones popping up all the time so probably a waste of time getting them done.

respray then armourfend, |
i have used chipsaway on my previous beemer and it looked great!!! thoroughly recommend the guy who did mine.

thumbs down from me i'm afraid.
got my local rep for chipsaway to do mine last year. had scratches down drivers door and while i was there i asked him to do all the chips down the door edges (from the kids bashing them when opening against our walled driveway :() and a few other bits. i also asked him to touch up some stone chips on the leading edge of the scoop, front bumber brows and the wedges in the bumper. Took all day and when i got the car back, it looked ok (but it was getting dark) but afterwards i noticed that all they had done was just paint over the chips and so a few months down the line they look just as bad as the paint has "chipped away " :( so fairly pointless me thinks. but maybe your local guy can do better...maybe |
if the stonechips are all over the bonnet/bumper etc then chipsaway won't be able to help - a full respray of said areas is needed.
I had my old scooby resprayed due to an accident. That had loads of stonechips due to the wafer this paint srayed at the factory but only picked up 1 in the 6 months that followed. The job was done at my local dealership and in his own words the paint jobs done at the factory are sh*te. |

Cheers for the replies guys, I thought Chipsaway was a bit dodgy, think I will leave them for a while, as I thinking of getting a carbon bonnet and rear wing.
Cheers again John. |
