Is this normal
Just tried to book MY00 in for a service, suprise suprise its is now due a major service costing around £460 and they have informed me that it needs a cambelt change costing another £300+. The laugh is that the salesman assured me that the cam belt was changed at 45000K. I have gone and booked it in for a minor as they have told me that if i dont get it serviced it will invalidate my warrenty.
Good old T&C, cant wait for my years warrenty to end so i never have to deal with T&C ever again. |
Sounds well pricey for a belt fitting - i paid about £40 from a local specialist mechanic. It's not a huge job on Imprezas anyway, being at the frint, just didn't want to riak getting the wrong tooth doing it myself.
Glad mine so old a service history doesn't really matter! |
Yeah think i will get the service to uphold my warrenty and then get a specialsit to change cam if i cant get the T&C to pay for it first.

What mileage are you on? If it's the 90k then that price is not unheard of or even out of the way. 600-700 quid. Actually, the price of the cambelt itself has dropped recently - it used to be an expensive part.

According to there records the cam was not changed at 45k and will be an extra £300 onto the 60k service. The car has only just done 45k.
|
So if the salesman insisted it had been done, you should demand the job is done FOC !

I am going in to see him before it goes in for its service

Correct me if I am wrong, but if it is a Subaru warrenty, then as of a couple of years ago, I thought you were able to take the car to any registered dealer/garage.
As long as you can prove that they have used OE spec parts, or better. Don't think I would like to be the one to test this theory though...! |
Have tried this allready, if the cars new then they cant insist you use a subara dealer. However if it's an approved one as is here then the warranty is with subaru via T & C for the one year from purchase
Afraid to say you've fallen for salesman bull****. Up until 97/98 models cam belt change was 45k, then 98 - late 2001 it was 50k, and late 2001 onwards its 60k. Have a 2001 myself and subaru could only tell me when it needed the cambelt changed if I quoted the chasis no. :eek2: ps. The 50 / 60 k service (cam belt/fluids etc) from T & C is £450 ish including the belt change and its not extra. |
If it were me mate, id shove the warrenty up the salesmans arse, and take it to a specialist, chances are if anything does go wrong they will try and get out of sorting it anyways.
£450 + £300, they are bending you over mate. |
Cheers guys, i am going in to see the salesman at the weekend and try to get them to pay for the cambelt. Will c how it goes.
