Hi all,

Just been told by my dealer to write to IM with a letter of complaint about the poor quality of the paintwork on my DBM car. He informs me the more that complain the better as they will produce a service memo to all dealers telling them what action to take when DBM cars come in for paintwork/warranty claims. ... so it could just help the few of us who have shocking damage to paint on these cars ....

He told me to try and get a list together of peoples chassis numbers and names and put it all together in the letter detailing the problems we/you have had ...simply mine is stone damage ... flippin loads of it ... paint is either to hard or too soft .. it can be both ... so I'm told.

IM will not listen to an individual but will find it hard to ignore a group of us ... so if you want to e-mail me the chassis numbers or just your name and model/year if you don't want to let them have your chassis number and I'll include them all in the letter to them I intend to get off by the end of next week.

mail 'em to kev@sidc.co.uk and I'll let you know how I get on.

Is this problem only with MY99/00 cars I had a DBM MY97 which when I changed it after 18 months and some 45,000 miles Didn't have anything like the problems you guys are complaining about the odd stone chip yes but that is to be expected. I have more chips on my RB5 after 30,000 miles than I did on the DBM

Agree that the painwork on DBM is rubbish. I think that it is far too soft. Only got to look at the car and it seems to have another scratch on it. swirls are also aproblem on this colour. Kev I,ll email you.

Chip.

MY99 - similar issues to your own. Perhaps not as significant, but this is easily the worst paint job I have experienced on any car in 18 years on the road.

Quite agree with all of the above, my MY99 bonnet is appalling - covered in stone chips, will mail details.

Matt

Hi Kev I have an MY99 DMB my bonnet is like a golf course loads of bunkers!!! I wrote to International motors they sent someone to look at the paint and said under microscopic testing there was the corect amount of paint but would not say it was too soft! If i can't get it sorted I am getting a caterham !At least you will get good service from them and a B M W as a company car The paint on bmw's is much better and tougher so I have been told.

My DBM MY00 5door Turbo is chipped quite a lot, especially considering I leave a 3 or 4 second gap when possible to the car in front (apart from overtaking of course http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif )
It is not often I get stuck behind someone so the level of chipping is a joke really.

I don't commute with it. It is only for getting the shopping and going for a spin! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif I drive 90% on A and B roads

I wished I'd gone for a laquered top to it.

I've emailed you also Kev.

swa..

I have the laquer on a 99 DBM, makes no difference - my front spoiler and bonnet are speckled white with chipping.

Anyone any idea of what would be expected from IM or what they can do to rectify/appease??

BarryK 18 September 2000 01:15 PM

Yeah, I notice far more marks and deep chips are appearing on my car than the wife's R reg Mazda 626.

I'll e-mail me details Kev.

Kev 18 September 2000 01:47 PM

Cheers all...

Great response, keep 'em coming ...
