Chubbs (Steve),

Great to meet you...and thanks for turning up...a couple of great pics!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

In total we had 19 Scoobs, a Fiesta (aka Bob T), a Granada Scorpio (??) and a Ford Escort Van (??)...

What a great day out!! Weather held for us...Black Scooby battled it out against (as far as I can gather) the whole of his family!!...and we saw some excellent hill climbs..

Thanks to all that showed up...I think most of us managed to get in for nothing!!! he he..

All the best

Tom

Greta day out and I too have a sunburnt head, almost the colour of my Red Scooby, one of my Passengers "Skippy" is tempted to taking his Scoob on the Hill maybe in the future.

Maybe see some of you at Croft on the 18th August.

A good day, despite it raining and looking generally miserable when we left Bashi's house in the morning. Am I glad I still had some suncream in the car from the Lakes run the other weekend!

Thanks to Rum and the organisers letting us all park together. A great sight and certainly attracted a bit of interest from the other spectators. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Just sorting out my photo's at the moment, so expect them later on.

Certainly got me interested in the thought of hillclimbing. Is there anything of the web to find out more about the different classes?

ChrisB.

Blackscooby 06 August 2001 12:59 AM

Chris,

I haven't found anything on the web yet ~ but still looking, however this is taken from the Harewood regs book.

Class 1
Road modified Saloon and Sports cars upto 1400cc excluding Kit, Replica and Spaceframed Cars and non ferrous chassis contruction cars.

Class 2
Road modified Saloon and Sports cars upto 2000cc excluding Kit, Replica and Spaceframed Cars and non ferrous chassis contruction cars.

Class 3
Road modified Saloon and Sports cars over 2000cc excluding Kit, Replica and Spaceframed Cars and non ferrous chassis contruction cars.

Impreza turbo cars would be in Class 3 (over 2000cc) as they have a forced induction equivalence applied of 1.5 * engine capacity.

All cars must be Taxed, insured and MOT'd in Road mod classes. Glass needs to remain (No plastic). Max noise of 105Db. (F*cking loud... my Pug is 103ish!)

Drop me a mail if you want further details and I'll see what I can find out.

I have to say that Class 3 is a SERIOUS money class. I stopped Hillclimbing the Subaru as modifications are expensive. Engine repairs were frequent. Pistons, turbo and gearbox (1 per event consecutive event http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif )

As a standard UK94 I struggled to get below a time of 71 seconds. Running 2bar I managed a 66 seconds or so. But running a safer 1.3bar I think I was in the region of 68.5 which is 3 seconds faster than the Pug.

Class 3 is extreamly fast bearing in mind the white Cosworth managed a 65.5 and about 3 seconds faster than the Black STi.

Saying all that Class 3 is the crowd puller really. People can identify with the fast road cars much more so than the fast single seater cars, and they look much more dramatic. You've only to watch the spectacular Yellow 911 out of the farmhouse complex to know what I mean http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Come on give it a go. The bug's bitten now http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

I hope you all enjoyed the day at Harewood as much as I. Cheers to Rum for organizing such an excellent turnout.

Despite my feable attempts at Hillclimbing in the morning where I was over 2 seconds slower than my brother in the same car, the afternoon was a significant improvement. Overall in class I came 3rd with a time of 71.5 seconds beaten by my brother (Jamie) by a knatts breath of 0.15 of a second (71.35). The Mark 1 Escort again a fraction of a second behind me.

Basically all 4 of us (3 brothers and a mate) in 2 cars where covered in less than 1/2 second http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Its fantastic when 4 drivers can battle it out soooo closely.

Sadly the Escort went into the Rectal barrier (Nasty green barrier by the hedge) on the last run of the day and as a consequence redesigned the passenger side. Hopefully its nothing that a lick of paint and a little knock won't fix !!!

So how many takers have we for next season ?
Its easy to get a licence...All you need is a "None Race National B" which is about £30, plus a race suit and an approved helmet..
Come on you know you want to http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Thanks to all.... Sorry I didn't get much of a chance for a natter.

Mark.

PS Anyone seen the after-sun lotion ????

P1 Pete 06 August 2001 11:53 AM

Thanks Tom for organizing a great day out. It was real fun to meet so many Scooby fanatics and thanks for the advice on all the tweaks and although a little http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif I think a trip to Scooby Sport is on the cards http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Hope to meet again next time

Pete

ChrisB 06 August 2001 03:27 PM

Thanks for the information Mark. Probably looking at the 205 GTI we spoke about on e-mail a few months back.

Question for Rum... Where did you get the harnesses from?

ChrisB.

Blackscooby 06 August 2001 05:00 PM

Chris,

Great we've had such a great battle in Class 2 yesterday. I'm no where near the pace of the Clio Williams which incidently has had a small fortune spent on it. But when there's a number of you all within a few tenths it's a great laugh.

Still couldn't get round the first corner properly mind http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif Always saw the tyre wall out of the corner of my eye http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

We've only got 3 events left, Sept 8, Sept 9 and some time in October. Get it built, get ya self a licence and come for a play at 3 Sisters in Wigan ~ excellent fun.

Cheers

Blackscooby

I will definately be having a go at Harewood, though it will probably be next year now as I believe the last race of the year is the 9th Sept?

I have the same MR2 (model and colour) as the guy who was racing(Number 44) but I am sure I could get a much faster time than him - he seemed to just wallow around the course. I will also have it modded by then as well.

How do you sign up with the BARC?

DW

Rum* 06 August 2001 08:19 PM

ChrisB,

I got them direct from Safety Devices...I can't remember the exact price but full details are on their website. They will take orders over the phone and despatch same day by courier.

They fit easily onto the existing mounts in the car and took circa 40 minutes to fit...

Hope this helps.

Tom

Rum* 06 August 2001 08:21 PM

Chiark has promised to post some of his excellent pics in due course...

I am hoping that they will appear on my website over the next few days...

The detail on them is amazing...

Some good shots of the Ferraris, a few of various cars coming up the hill and a few scenic ones as well http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

And obviously the huge long line of all our cars http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Catch you all next time

Tom

Picture of a line up of cars at Harewood (taken earlish)

Blackscooby 08 August 2001 12:01 AM

ChrisB,

Fantastic pictures...
I notice that every driver has a different line through Farmhouse bend !

Where was that red Escort going ????

What camera do you use ?

Cheers

Mark

ChrisB 08 August 2001 12:33 AM

Hi Mark,

I use a Canon Digital Ixus, which has now been replaced with the Digital Ixus V (http://www.canon.co.uk/digital_cameras/index.html). I was really impressed with a couple of the tracking shots I got.

I was laughing my socks off at that Red Escort. Looked to be having great fun in such a basic car.

Cheers,

ChrisB.

Blackscooby 08 August 2001 12:42 AM

I'm really impressed with the quality of the pics... I've got a Canon IXUS 300, but I struggle with anything thats moving within the photo.

Cheers
