My workhorse Focus
I have a 1.8 Zetec, for my everyday work & back motor travelling over 500 miles per week.
I'm often getting anything between 35 - 38mpg at a steady 70/75mph all motorway mileage, and often get over 425 miles out of 50/52 ltrs. Anyone out there rate the Focus, cause I'm well impressed.... |
Are you also known as Eugene from Big Brother for your other amazing facts?
|
Hey, there's no need for that.....
I'll get me coat, where's me anorack... |
I rate them :D
|
425 BLIMEY.... :freak3:
ive jus sold mine.... i had a 2.0 ESP with a few mods http://img32.imagevenue.com/img.php?...mage=1d5_1.JPG and i usually got on a good day 240 miles from a full tank.... |
I do almost exactly the same and workhorse is a great description (I haven't washed it in 7 months)
I do about 500 miles a week in and out of London in a 1.6 Ghia Focus which has just ticked over 60k mls and I'm fully intending to drive into the ground. Driving a car you don't care about is so much more relaxing. Edited to add, typically drive just below the speed where you loose your license, when traffic and conditions allow, and get about 410 miles per tank |
The focus always gets my vote as the best alrounder.
Not the best of spec. Fairly Basic and dated. Prices look inflated when compared to other similar cars (most with more toys) Found the early zetec engine rather unwilling when pushed hard (with quite low output for their size) and the newer zetec SE engine more free revving but completely devoid of any usable torque. Which is why in this day and age I'll always plump for the later high output Tdci or 16valve diesels. But they are good to drive, very reliable and quite a solid motor. (how the Rover 25 exceeded it in the "what car" survey - posted in the Rover thread is beyond me  - shows how rubbish car surveys are ;) ) |

Focus is spot on. The mrs has one and we've done 20k trouble free motoring in it now in 2 years.
They're superb to drive as well for a modern car, very chuckable and responsive. I want a Focus RS next, the old/current shape not the new one. |
Had 2 before my scoob, 1.8 zetec with toys and 1.8lx with bugger all...the 1.8lx was a hoot to drive, much more fun than my scoob <zips up flameproof suit> you could drive it right up to the limit of its abilities and it was still progressive when it let go, you can have fun without hitting license losing speeds and the running costs are negligable...think i'll be booking a test drive in the new ST while I wait for the RS ;)

Good to see some positive feedback for the old Focus.
If it wasn't for having a Scoob as my weekend car I would seriously consider the Cosworth Focus, which I feel should have been equiped with four wheel drive, bit of a mistake of Ford to let that go with two wheel drive. To get an Idea of consumption & at least 36mpg you need to fill the tank brim full and cover 260miles by half a tank on the gauge, then your on for at least 36mpg. 240 miles from a full tank 55ltrs, thats terrible... I'm not an anorak honest, nor do I have shares in Ford, I'm just Impressed with my Focus which I do look after. PNB |
I've got a 1.6 as my daily driver, owned it from new and also intend to keep it till it's worthless. Done 40k in it over the last 3 years and its been utterly dependable, never missed a beat. The only downside to owning one is the dealers IMHO so I'm just going to service it myself.
As for economy, 40+ mpg without fail. Never less than 450 from a tank and 500+ on occasion. |
I drove the Focus TDCi 115 last week as I'm looking for a 2nd car, I liked it but it just felt a little gutless compared to the Ibiza TDi 130 FR.
btw they haven't brought out a Focus Cosworth yet and I can't see that Ford will. |
Well what's the Blue Focus with the big arches & fancy interior ??
|
Focus RS
|
Of course it is, I'll get my coat & turn the lights out
P_i-k |
:D Its a shame that there doesn't seem to be any sign of a Focus Cosworth, it'd be a  car.
